Default TED's verdict on Kitty Farmcat this afternoon.

Please know that I am right now sending up a bundle of prayers for you and
the venerable KFC. For strength, for both of you.

I'm bracing myself, Baha. I am reasonally sure she won't be here with us in
two weeks time but of course you can never be sure with KFC, she does like
to pretend to die now and again to keep me on my feet but this time I think
it's for real.

I know it's not easy. Who the hell am I kidding--it sucks, it just sucks. it
sucks the joys out of living and the spirit and energy out of a living soul.
And I wish it didn't have to happen. I respect KFC. She is a Grande Dame, an
Auntie Mame. If she were one of us clumsy two-leggers she'd probably wear
purple slacks, a big red hat with a feather, and drink tea with her pinky
stuck out--hell with the funny stares--or a shot of Old Krupnik with the
morning news. I'd take her for coffee.

I know that, deep in your gut, the decision you'll make will be the right and
ethical one.

I had a time when my Fritzie left us. I like to say he went into retirement,
after the work he did in laying out his own religion. I hope neither you nor
anyone else would handle it the way I did (stoned.) We of course will be
here to love and support you. I also strongly suggest a chat with the good
and compassionate people at www.petloss.org. Or is it .com? Oy... even a good
social worker who handles grieving can be of great benefit. I wish I had
known there were support groups locally, and that website.

We will be with you; we love you, we pray for you and we'll be here. Right
now, I'll still be praying for you and the venerable KFC.

Blessed be,
Baha

This is so hard when the question is not "is she in pain" like cancer
or a car accident, it's "has she got good quality of life." As long
as she's still happy, even if she's a little confused, it doesn't
matter but when she's upset, agitated, bewildered because she can't
remember where she lives or how to eat, then you will know it is time.

Bright Blessings for you and KFC.

She hardly ate on Sunday, no matter what lovely food was provided. Monday
morning she ate nothing, Monday after work I phoned TED to make a new
appointment for today.
She went missing again last night, she sneaked out somehow despite my best
efforts about shutting the door quickly after me even when I just pop
outside to put something in the garbage bin. It took me ages to find her, I
was climbing through neighbour's gardens, over fences, and up and down
looking in the street. Eventually another neighbour came to find me.
They'd rung my doorbell - but I was out looking for her. "Your cat is here"
and so she was, sitting on their doorstep like she thought she belonged
there and with no idea that her home was here or how to get back to it.
I cannot seem to resolve the poo problems she's had since she first went
missing either. She poos everywhere and anywhere because she's "loose"
She pooed in her carrier on the way to the vet.
This is what he said. He will give her some injections to help her appetite
and a multi-vitamin injection. He said he is reluctant to recommend more
fluids for her "it will cost you a lot of money and is a very short term
solution for her." "

So, here is the verdict from TED. "you must think about calling it a day if
she doesn't get better from these injections" I knew he was being kind, he
wanted me to make a decision today. I wasn't ready for that.
She has until after the weekend to improve, after that, if she doesn't, it's
Rainbow Bridge.
I am crying now over an old fiesty cat that I never wanted but have grown to
love, so I have to go

As a vet tech, I see this all the time. I've seen older cats and dogs
that are hospitalized and bounce back from organ failure. It's always
a good thing to see them do that, however in the back of my head I
know its only a matter of time before it happens again. The only way
me and other techs have dealt with it is that you pray that it doesn't
happen too soon. Then they come back later and this time the pet is
critical. The doctor and the owner talk everything out, but as a tech
it is painful to watch, because you know only so much can be done.

I hate to say this, but TED is right. There's only so much that can
be done at this point. Supportive care will buy her time, but there
are some things that medicine can't fix. I'm not trying to suggest
anything, please bear in mind. this is YOUR decision. And having
seen this a lot, I KNOW the pain you are in...

Hugs and purrs for you,

Kristi

Purrs coming over the big pond for the two of you - KFC to respond to the
vitamin shot and you to feel relieved no matter what happens.

I'm so sorry, Tweed. With her age and health problems, we knew it would
be inevitable, and sooner rather than later. but it hurts so much. She's
such an excellent little soul. {{{Tweed}}} We're purring.

Sending huge Restorative Purrs to KFC and my heart aches with and for
you, Tweed. I'm hoping she'll perk up by this weekend and extend her
lease on life a while longer.

Love her and pay close attention to her for the next few days. As wise
a kitty as KFC will let you know if she feels it's time to say
farewell. Alas, one day, mortality will catch up to us all, however
hard we try to outrun it. I say this not to be cruel, but simply in
acceptance of this unpalatable truth. But I'm still hoping KFC will
rally and defy TED's prognosis.

Oh dear. Purrs KFC rallies from those injections. And that she stops
wandering off and scaring you!
