Happy World Turtle Day
I know this group is designed specifically for cat lovers and I do love cats myself. However, an event of such magnitude like 'World Turle Day' deserves recognition by all animal lovers. Enjoy the link provided or research other sites that can provide what it is you're looking for. HAPPY TURTLE DAY to ALL!!! https://www.worldturtleday.org/ Dr. Auric D. Hellman |

Hellman I saved a turtle yesterday. It was trying to cross a big three lane road and I stopped in the left lane, turned on the flashers, got out of the car, and got the (faiirly light) traffic to stop. I then picked up the turtle (a pretty big guy, maybe 14" across) and carried it to the side of the road and put it down. Naturally it snapped at me. But that still wasn't good because there was a heavy fence and it couldn't get off the sidewalk, so I circled around, parked off the side of the road, took a blanket from the trunk of the car, and picked it back up and took it around the corner to a canal and let it go there. He snapped at me again. No gratitude but at least I still have my fingers. That's the second turtle I pulled off the road this year. This was a really odd looking one - I think it was one of these: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida_softshell_turtle I have to remember to keep heavy duty gloves in the car. |

Back when I still lived in Tennessee I was on my way to pick up Persia (RB 2014) from the vet. There was a box turtle in the middle of the street that had been clipped by a car. A small portion of the shell was damaged. I stopped (no traffic) and carried it across the street and put it in someone's yard. Fortunately it wasn't a snapper. Jill |
