Default Lester Is Home

I showed up after my ride, arriving about 12:30. The surgeon, due to her
scheduled office appointments, wasn't able to see Lester until 1 pm. She
couldn't unclog the feeding tube either. That meant a light anesthetic and
replacement of the tube, taking a couple hours, and so I followed her
recommendation and drove home. There was some risk to the anesthetic, given
his condition. She also described his color as deteriorating, saying it was
more yellow than the bicycle club jersey I was wearing. (see
http://www.ocrebels.com/ ). He also got the Sub-Q fluids that had been
scheduled for Monday.

I just picked him up and got him home. His color isn't THAT bad, although
he's clearly more yellow than before. I guess I'm losing the battle, but he
doesn't seem to know it yet. I gave him a modest 4 cc. of food, the first
food in 26 hours. If that stays down, I'll feed him a small amount hourly
until bedtime, maybe 5 cc., and then resume the 4 hour regimen.

I'm still hopeful that his time with us will be measured in weeks, not days.

Purring, hoping Lester will get to enjoy more Sunny Spots before he has to
go to the bridge. And for him being as comfortable as possible.

You can only try and since you are willing and Lester is willing you are
doing the right thing. You can tell if it is not, I'm quite sure. Give him
some skritchies from me.

At the risk of being out of line here (we are all hoping for poor Lester to
be with you as long as possible) an rpca friend whose sister went to the RB
via liver failure and jaundice just like Lester's (jaundice is yellowness)
which her systemwide breast cancer caused wishes to share with you that she
was in no apparent pain and "suffering", but obviously just got weaker (yes,
with the same noneating problems) till she crossed the Bridge. As you know,
there *is* no merciful needle for us hoomins to speed the crossing......but
I want you to know, and that Hopitus hopes both for your and Lester's sake,
about liver failure being evidently mostly painless. From what I read, Linda
McCartney (same disease, same liver failure at the end) went the same way
with the same absence of pain. ((((((((Art)))))))).

Ugh. I forgot some earlier posts. My post about "hang in there" and
"clogs happen" are not appropriate.

Glad to hear he's back home, and especially that he doesn't realise
how sick he is. Purrs and prayers that he will be around as long as
possible, and never to realise he's sick.

Special hugs and purrs coming to you, for making him as comfortable as
possible, even though it's so very hard on you.

Art,

We are keeping Lester in our thoughts and prayers, and the Miles clan
are purring that Lester is comfortable for as long as possible. Like
you, we hope it will be weeks and not days.
