credit card. Lee

I do have a debit card I use for regular household bills, everyday
expenses and incidentals. I don't keep a lot of money in that account.
It doesn't earn interest (if it did the money goes out too fast every
month for it to accrue and the potential interest rate sucks anyway.)

Persia's vet bills were unexpected. Yes, she had a "savings account".
But after her tooth was pulled and she got very ill, then she was allergic
to the thyroid medication and having to stay at the vet several times,
well, it burned that up. It was time to use HER credit card, which had
never been used before. Then the bank reviewed my usage and cut the
credit limit in half. All because I was a good customer, paying the bill
in full every month. Usurers! They'd rather I be a deadbeat running up a
ton of debt so they can charge exhorbitant interest and late fees because
I can't pay my bill. So sorry, but I *can* pay my bill. Chase Bank can
kiss my a**.

best thing we ever did was get ri of all credit cards. Lee

Unfortunately, not all places take checks. And I'm not inclined to walk
around with a lot of cash in my wallet.

I was on the phone arguing with Chase Bank this morning. That's the
credit card I was using to pay all of Persia's vet bills. I have never
used it for anything else. I got a letter in the mail yesterday saying
they'd lowered my credit limit based on my "usage". Um, excuse me,
it's based on the fact that I'm *not* a slacker who racks up interest
and late fees by making minimum payments. I pay the bill in full every
month.

Banks and credit card companies these days don't reward good solid
customers. They welcome deadbeats who can't pay their bills. They
welcome people who think nothing of going 30, 60, 90 days past the due
date. Because these cards are raking in money in late fees and
exhorbitant interest.

Sorry, I'm not one of those people. I paid the bill in full, cut up
the card and closed the account. Screw you people. Your bank will
never darken my door again. Usurers!

Jill

WellsFargo did the same thing to my sister. She has never missed a payment
and has never been late, but they cut her credit limit *and* raised her
interest rate. They seem to pay no attention to credit-worthiness when
making these decisions.

I thought Congress passed a thing recently that forbid CC companies
from raising
interest rates for no reason. I'm not sure about this, though. Jill is
right in that
the CC companies don't want customers who don't carry a balance or pay
big
interest.
What is (OT) *really* unfair is that in the state of OK, your credit
score affects your
ability to purhase auto insurance and the premiums you pay. This is
NOT FAIR. In
this economy, I have seen so many people whose credit score has tanked
through
no fault of their own. Bad things happen to good people, and those
things don't
affect their ability to drive safely. It is so unfair. IMO it's just
giving carte blanche to
the insurance companies to jack up the rates for drivers who are
simply going through
some tough economic times. And these are people with perfect, no-
accident, no-ticket
driving records.

Sherry

Unfortunately, my sister does carry a large balance, so she can't afford to
pay it off. But she has never been late and has usually paid considerably
more than the minimum. Wells Fargo made the changes on her account (reduced
her credit and raised her interest rate) just before the new law took
effect. I thought, from the very beginning, that Congress made a huge
mistake by giving credit cards so much time to make changes before the law
was effective. Credit card companies claimed that they needed the time to
adjust their software, but what they really did was hit the consumer with
every dirty trick they could concoct. And now, of course, they have already
started to charge annual fees to compensate for their "losses."

They did Sherry. The problem is the credit card companies jacked rates just
before it went into effect.

Home Depot jacked me to 36%. JC Penny did same. Citibank and Chase went up
and we cancelled the Chase, Home Depot and JC Penny cards and contacted
Citibank (owed none of these 4 anything) who reduced the rate back down. We
pretty much told them reduce or cancel. We use that one only as an
emergency backup (has an annual fee).

Navy Federal Credit Union was the only one that didn't change.

Some one else that chase screwed with. I have very credit high limits on
all my card low APR's. I maintain a balance to keep the limits. The way
you are supposed to do to keep good credit ;-). They took my credit limit
and dropped it below an already established balance also jacked my interest
rate from 4.99% to 27.99%. Than they tried to charge me fees and other
items for being over my limit. I told them that was illegal. I would not
pay take them off and or I was contacting a lawyer. They removed the fees
and increased my credit back to where it was after some time and multiple
people on the phone. I paid them off immediately and told them to shove it
where the sun don't shine.

Right now I am getting rid of any credit cards I have except My business
American express and I am keeping only one credit card besides my visa/debit
card that is through my bank. Dad thing is I won't be able to use any of my
points every year to get my vacation paid for ;-(
