Lee, we cannot leave doors or downstairs windows open at night as we get
burglaries on the estate from time to time. We do sleep with all the
upstairs windows open though and everything open when we are at home, which
is mainly late afternoons and weekends. I wish I could be home all the time
just in case she drops by but I have to go to work Then all I do is sit
and watch the clock until I finish at 3 and rush home expecting her to be
waiting on the doorstep!

Oh, I know *so well* how this feels, coming home each evening hoping this
will be the night she's there waiting, from when my Smudge was missing.

I still have a strong feeling you'll get her back. You've seen her, and
others have seen her. She's around. Sooner or later, you or someone else
is going to catch her and bring her home.

Thank you for all your support, you will all be the first to know when she
finally gets home. I do feel that time is getting nearer.

Purrs continuing!!

What happened to the original topic of this thread??

Somehow it got hijacked instead of starting a thread of it's own!!

From the RPCA FAQ Page (see my sig below for the URL):

Darn it, half these posts aren't even about cats!

That's what happens when friends start to have a conversation - you can
start on one topic, and the conversation drifts so far that within 10
minutes you are talking about something else entirely and you didn't even
notice the change.

Occasionally people notice and put an [OT] in the subject line to signify
that the post is Off Topic (ie, not about cats), but not always. Just think
of this group as a bunch of people that became friends because of their
cats. It makes it easier to understand the style and content of the posts,
particularly the ones that are technically off topic. Would you tell one of
your friends to shut up if he just announced his engagement?

I would really appreciate some GYFBH purrs please. Yesterday evening Smudgie
chased a cat over our fence and kept on running. She has never been out of
the garden before so I am super worried. I have been walking the streets
calling her name and shaking her food box but no luck. She is scared of
strangers so will not approach anyone for help. I have put leaflets thru
doors and on lamp posts etc. I am so worried and am hoping the "power of
the purrs" will help guide her home.

Thank you so much
Sharon

I decided to light a candle for Smudgie, to help show her the way home,
in my very special glass candle holder, in the shape of a sleeping cat.

Purrs continue, of course.

Thank you so much, I do appreciate your kindness. The weather forecast for
today and the weekend is hot, hot, hot and this is worrying me even more! At
the back of the road where the last possible sighting was is a wooded area
which I didn't even know existed! Hopefully Smudgie will be hiding out
somewhere like this where it will be cooler and there will be lots of bugs
to eat! We have dotted lots of bowls of water around that area now in the
hope she will find one.

Maybe today ....

That wooded area sounds like a good place to look for poor Smudgie,
especially if it's going to be really hot.

Plus, it just sounds like a good place for her to hide.

I'm sure she is just scared to death, so she is hiding as much as
possible.

I do so hope you can find her on Friday, or this weekend.

I've been trying hard to think of a way to leave a scent transfer for
her. The best I can do at this time is to tie some soiled clothes on a
rope and starting at the furtherest end just drag it home , I have no
idea if scent transfer will work at this point. Also wonder if an
humane trap bated with sardines would work, but who knows what you would
catch? I am now praying and purring for you to have inspiration on a
way to find her. Best wishes. MLB

If I remember correctly in the earlier post she mentioned about
leaving dirty socks I believe it was out and she also had some live
traps out to try to catch her but evidently neither has worked yet.

Still sending prayers and purrs.

Here is a link to a site on recovering lost cats that's goes a little
farther than most, taking into consideration your cat's personality. You've
probably already seen it, but if not it has some good information and may be
of use to you or someone else who has lost a cat.

One thing I have done when I've had a lost pet is print up business card
size posters to hand out to anyone I talked to. All they included were a
picture or two of the pet, the heading LOST CAT, and my phone number. It's
much easier to properly identify an animal if you have a picture at your
fingertips.

I've also used magnetic material and printed large size posters to put on my
car. I didn't really expect these to help find the pet, more to explain to
impatient drivers behind me why I was driving so slowly. Of course I would
pull over and let others by, but hoped the signs would at least gain me some
courtesy and well wishes.

I believe you will find Smudgie soon.

Hi Everyone,

I know where Smudgie is! We walked down to the woods again a bit later than
normal and I stopped and spoke to a lady dog walker and gave her a leaflet
and she said ....."I'm sure it's her I have seen her in the woods every
night except Wednesday"! Apparently she hides in the shrubs, occasionally
runs across her path but is very skinny We walked through calling her and
then bumped into the lady again who said she had another proper look at the
photo and she is positive it is her! My clever girl has found shelter in
this heat, a plentiful supply of bugs and we have left lots of water bowls
dotted around for her to find and a pile of food. We went back again around
10 with torches but could find no sign of her, perhaps she wanders off a bit
when its darker and returns in the day?

Now I am pretty sure she is there I will borrow another trap (so we have 2)
and set them in the woods from late tomorrow afternoon. We can go back and
check them every couple of hours and then will have to leave them set
overnight but I think it's the only way we are going to catch her.

Will update when I have more news.

Maybe tomorrow .....
Sharon
