Am I normal?
Last week my niece called me to let me know she was going to become a
cat slave as a friend of my SIL's pedigree manx queen had received a visit from the local mad feral tom and produced the inevitable result and she was going to have a girl bitty Then last night, she calls me to say she is pregant and my first reaction was "But you're getting a kitten" she says no she isn't now. So everyone's congratulating her and guess what? I'm feeling sorry for the kitten...I hope she finds a home. Am I normal or what? Lesley Slave of the Fabulous Furballs |

If your niece *just* found out she's pregnant, why can't she get a kitten? The kitten will be close to a year old when the baby is born and shouldn't pose any problems. I don't quite understand the old wives tales about cats "stealing a baby's breath". I suppose if the cat sat on a baby's face it would be a problem, but hey, close the nursery door when the baby is asleep. Use one of those baby monitors so you can hear if the baby cries. Is that hard? Purrs for the little girl-cat to find a forever home. Jill |

My gosh, it's not like it's going to do anything but bond with them. And to tell you the truth, she should get TWO. It's just always better. |

Lesley Slave of the Fabulous Furballs You sound perfectly normal to me. I don't uderstand why she's no longer getting a kitten, they could have been the best of friends, like Cary and IBKFeregus. Like you, I feel sorry for the kitten. -- Adrian (Owned by Snoopy & Bagheera) A house is not a home, without a cat. http://community.webshots.com/user/clowderuk |

.. And to tell you the truth, she
should get TWO. It's just always better. Well that's the other thing. She was going to get a second kitten from the rescue centre. Still as I say I have a few weeks and am seeing her at a family party next week (She is not going to have much fun, stuck with a kitty mad aunt berating her and not even able to have a drink) Lesley Slave of the Fabulous Furballs |

I'm feeling sorry for the kitten...I hope she finds a home. Me too. Poor bit, I hope she finds a good home. The only problem I can see with pregnancy and cats is that it is recommended that pregnant women not clean out litter boxes, as there is apparently some germ/bug that is in cat feces that can harm the unborn baby. My friend wants to get a cat, but her husband refuses to do litter box duty so she doesn't feel she can until she has had all the babies she wants. Now, if you wear rubber gloves and wash your hands after, the danger is very small, but my friend already lost her first child (he strangled on his own umbilical cord at 7 months pregnancy) so she is super paranoid. --Fil |
