Default "Good comfort" from Holly and Duffy

I got very annoyed this morning with some mistakes I made on a project and
started yelling *at myself.* Does everyone do that?? Anyway, Holly and
Duffy always run *to* me when I do that and start head-butting. It really
makes me feel good to know that they realize I am not yelling at them (I
never do that!) and to feel that they are trying to give me some "good
vibrations."

Lets just say I swear less now that I've stopped preparing tax returns.

And I do really love comfort vibes.

That's so dear. I think that's exactly what they're doing--they're
comforting you. Cats pick up on moods even when the signs are much
more subtle. It amazes me how they different they act if I am sad,
upset, mad or sick.

I sometimes get very angry if I watch the news on television, Snoopy gets
upset when I'm angry. I try not to watch the news.

That is so sweet! My cats tend to run away if I show signs of anger
(not so much at myself, but maybe at someone else, eg, on the phone).
I have never been abusive toward my cats, but perhaps the quality of
anger is just threatening to them in the general sense.

I have been known to raise my voice at my cats when they're doing
something they shouldn't, such as when Licky harrasses Smudge. In that
case, I'll say, "Liiiiicky...." (drawing out the "i" in an admonishing
tone), and sometimes I need to clap my hands loudly to get his attention.
He runs off, but Smudge just stands there and gives me a look that I
can only interpret as grateful. She hears the loud voice and clapping,
but she knows who it's for, so it doesn't seem to scare her. I'll usually
follow this up with "It's OK, Smudgie", which always calms her down.

Then again, my cats have never been especially good comfort cats.
I've at times been upset about something, and crying, and not gotten
any response from them. It's still nice to have them around, though -
they're a comfort to me even if they don't know it.
