Buffy Needs to Go on a Diet

I weighed her yesterday. She weighs 12 lbs. That's up from 10 lbs. a
couple of months ago. She's getting "fluffy"! Obviously she's not
starving.

We had a really good play session yesterday. In fact, we do it every
day. She's got a wand toy with a mousie on the end of it. She leaps
and plays and catches her "prey". This goes on for about thirty
minutes. She also loves golf balls. Funny, since I live on a golf
course but don't play golf. I toss the golf ball around with her every
day. And she entertains herself with it.

Buffy is strictly an indoor cat. Any suggestions for an indoor dry cat
food? Something available in any grocery store. I'd rather not have to
drive across town to Petsmart or order it online.

For now I'm going to stop free-feeding the dry kibble. A little in the
morning, a little when we go to bed. She's going on a bit of a diet.

85g of wet Sheba a day, nothing else, and got me all fired up about it!
So all the time you were free feeding dry kibble too, and yet let me think
you were starving her and worry about it.

I do believe I said I was also giving her dry kibble. I bought a bag of
Meow Mix before I ever picked her up from her former home. I had
planned on giving her 1/4 cup of that a day and a can of Sheba, split in
half, twice a day. Since then I started free feeding the kibble and the
same amount of Sheba. She's gained a couple of pounds so I think she
needs a different lower fat kibble.

food per day. which I challenged you about.
But instead of saying "she is also free feeding on dry" you let me think
that 85g wet was all she was getting.

I would like to see you adjust her diet by eliminating dry kibble, or at
least reducing it, instead of simply changing the type of dry kibble.
Cats are obligate carnivores and cannot digest grains.

I'm sorry if it came across that way. But actually, Mary, you're the
one who agreed with me that a little kibble and a can of wet food would
be fine to start off with. I know you'd prefer I feed only wet food but
it's expensive so I fill in a bit with the dry. I'm just looking for
something slightly lower in calories. We do play every day so she's
getting lots of exercise.

Selective memory. According to my post on July 1st:

"I've got some dry kibble for Buffy but I'm trying to feed her more
canned food than anything else."

Yes, I've been feeding her dry food. I went to the store before I went
to bring her home. I asked and the caretaker told me she'd been eating
some sort of dry food and 9-Lives canned. I found Sheba on sale so I
bought a bag of Meow Mix and some Sheba. I never said I was ONLY going
to feed her 3 oz total of canned cat food a day.

I didn't want give Boyfie much dry until he had his weight issues and the
vet told me to because it huge amounts of calories in. I asked her about
"dry for boys" about the urinary problems it could cause, and she said he
would be fine. He is. Just like she said, he put on lots of weight with it
and is back to normal weight.
However, I prefer to have him on wet now with just a bit more sprinkles.
If he has lots of dry it seems to upset his bowels and we get bath pooing
overnight.
He is not allowed out overnight now in case of foxes which come here every
night to look at my chickens, just in case I forgot to shut them up.
When he was younger, it was a different thing but now he is older prefer to
have him in the house.
Foxes..sometimes they will eat cats, so we don't take a chance.
