Default Virus warning - OT

I don't know if this is true, but it was supposedly checked with Snopes.

Anyone-using Internet mail such as Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL and so on.
This information arrived this morning, Direct from both Microsoft and
Norton. Please send it to everybody you know who has access to the
Internet. You may receive an apparently harmless e-mail titled "Mail Server
Report" If you open either file, a message will appear on your screen
saying: 'It is too late now, your life is no longer beautiful.'

Subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC, And the person who sent it
to you will gain access to your name, e-mail and password.
This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon.
AOL has already confirmed the severity, and the anti virus software's
are not capable of destroying it.

The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself 'life owner'.

PLEASE SEND A COPY OF THIS E-MAIL TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS, And ask them to PASS
IT ON IMMEDIATELY! THIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY SNOPES

Please read the snopes page. Whilst the virus itself isn't a hoax, it dates
back to 2006 and this particular 'alert' is a hoax.

As with all messages ehther you know the sender or not, the attachment might
be unsafe. Open with caution, and a good virus protection program.

The reason this sort of thing acts as a virus lies in the words:

PLEASE SEND A COPY OF THIS E-MAIL TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS, And ask them to PASS
IT ON IMMEDIATELY!

This means that it is going around the world, clogging up the
internet. This is a very common scam: for goodness' sake ignore it and
DO NOT PASS IT ON. Microsoft DO NOT send virus warnings out direct to
anyone, so if something arrives that says 'Direct from Microsoft' or
something like that, IT IS A SCAM.

If you had checked with Snopes you would have learned that the Mail
Server Report Virus was real - in 2006 - and that the Life is
Beautiful Virus was not. See

http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/mailserver.asp

Please don't spread hoaxes.

In any case, don't open attachments blindly.
