The Swifter Wetjet solution contains propylene glycol (PG). PG causes Heinz bodies in cats. Heinz bodies result in red blood cell destruction and hemolytic anemia in cats. Cats have oxidant-sensitive hemoglobin. Their hemoglobin is highly unstable and subject to oxidation by chemicals that aren't deleterious to other species' RBCs. See: Am J Vet Res (American Journal of Veterinary Research) 1992 Jan;53(1):69-72. "Hematologic alterations in adult cats fed 6 or 12% propylene glycol" more information. Thank you for posting this. I knew propylene glycol is supposed to be toxic to cats but couldn't remember why. As a side note, many human body care products such as lotions contain propylene glycol. I know my cats like to lick me sometimes when I put lotion on. I use a floor steamer to clean my floors. That way I don't have to worry about my cats getting any chemical residue on their paws. But there are non-toxic cleaners that can be used, such as vinegar and water. "Laura R." wrote What kind, and where did you get it? Can they be used on wood floors? I'm guessing that the answer to that is probably "no", but what the heck, it doesn't hurt to ask. :-) I think the answer is "yes, if you like grey bumpy wood floors! --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. I just bought a Bissell Steam Mop, so I was able to check the instructions for you. Their booklet says, "Steam Mop is designed to clean bare flooring such as ceramic tile, vinyl, laminate, marble, stone and *sealed* hard wood floors." Later, the instructions say that the Steam Mop "is not for use on unsealed wood floors." I think I would be concerned, though, even if the floors are sealed. There could always be some area where steam could penetrate if the wood isn't completely sealed. MaryL |

I don't know if my wood floors are sealed or not, so I'm not using it on the wood floors. I use one of the dry swiffer type things to get dust and dirt, and I've cleaned with a mixture of vinegar and water (but only slightly damp). I've also cleaned with this natural orange cleaner which kind of treats the wood by moisturizing it. But I'm new to the wood floor thing so if anyone has something that would work better, please let me know. I do love my steamer though for ceramic and tile floors. Someone was telling me about a cleaner available at Trader Joe's called Zen that's supposed to be pet friendly but I haven't tried it yet.
