Default amazing cat toy

Found a thing in a charity shop today that has the furries
gobsmacked. It's a plastic sphere about the size of a cricket
ball (i.e. a bit smaller than a baseball) with a fluffy tail
attached. There's an electric motor inside that drives an
almost silent assembly that wobbles around, so it moves like
an occupied hamster ball. It gives an uncanny impression of
something sentient but not very intelligent blundering around.
If you see something answering this description, get it, you
won't regret it.

LOL, Jack! They call them weazel balls here, and some of my cats HATE
them with a passion. The ones that like them love having them put into a
paper bag - makes it much more interesting!

I first saw one of those nearly 20 years ago. They were very popular
in the early to mid 90's. Every tourist trap and junk gift store sold
them. Kitties were mildly amused for about 15 minutes then completely
lost interest. Took the weasel off the ball and they enjoyed it a lot
more without the infernal contraption whiring away.

I seem to remember several people posting about that toy a few
years ago. Lots of cats were terrified of it. I guess you have a
more intrepid bunch.

I am tempted, if only to see how poofed-up Dante would get.

I think it depends upon the cat! There was something similar (with a
furry tail - I think "raccoon" figured in the name of the thing) being
advertised a couple of years ago. My guys were somewhat interested at
first, but after it blundered into the furniture and stalled because it
couldn't go around chair legs, they pretty much lost interest. Of
course, there really is NOTHING anyone can say that applies to "all
cats", is there? (Someone can always cite an exception, even to things
that SEEM to be basic rules!)
