I feel like an idiot, but I was really hoping they would work. *I'm
sure there are cats out there that would love it, but I still would
worry about them swallowing the sand.

I learned from friends long ago never to order anything you see on TV. *I'm
just curious; didn't you know how much the S&H would be before your ordered
it?

I haven't seen that ad recently, so I don't know if the posted it. But
I have found that a lot of ads do not list the shipping, and at least
online, they won't tell you until after you enter your credit card.
And unlike reputable stores, they consider the purchase final as soon
as you enter your card, and do not allow you to cancel after that.

I decided to try the EmeryCat. My little cat's claws are very sharp
and tend to get stuck on things. Cutting them is a real ordeal that
requires one to cut and one to hold her down. We all end up
traumatized.

What the EmeryCat is, is just those regular corrugated cardboard
scratching boards with one side covered with a fine sand. The sand is
somehow glued on. When I opened the package, loose sand spilled all
over the floor. I shook off anything that was loose and put it down.

My cat tried it once and wouldn't scratch on it again. However, she
did sit on it and ended up with sand in her fur. I'm sure that
licking the sand it not a good idea. I brushed her and that was the
end of EmeryCat.

Here's the rip off: The two EmeryCat's were 19.95. Not bad, right?
But - the shipping was $15. If I return them, I lose the $15 and
whatever I have to pay for the return shipping.

I feel like an idiot, but I was really hoping they would work. I'm
sure there are cats out there that would love it, but I still would
worry about them swallowing the sand.

Don't feel bad - we ordered them too, and my cat will have nothing to do
with it, even with the little fuzzy tail hanging over it.

I was thinking about buying one, so I appreciate the information.

I should have known about the double S&H charge, but somehow I didn't
think about it until after I had accepted the order. It was really my
own fault, but to be perfectly honest, if this item had done what it
promised I wouldn't have minded. What gets me is that even though
I've sent them back I still have to eat the $15 I paid for shipping
the order and the $5 I paid to return it. Still - better than
nothing. I look at it as the price of learning a lesson the hard way.

::: At THAT point you close the window and leave the site. *S&H should be
clearly stated BEFORE you enter your CC number. *My husband and I order
things online quite often these days. The S&H is right there before the
number is entered. If not, they lost our business.

I do now, but most stores make you confirm the purchase at the end,
so it isn't a red flag unless you have been warned or experienced it
before.

I've found several since then, and I either close the window and never
return. Or I email the company to confirm shipping cost first. But I
can see how people will fall for it since it is not a normal practice
to finalize at the time of cc entry.
