OK, I lost it
I had a bit of an emotional outburst with Maya this morning. Let me
rephrase that, I lost it. Maya decided when Bruiser arrived that I no longer had the privledge of brushing her anymore. Never mind that she liked it and had come to purr as the first stroke of the brush went through her fur. I must be punished for my infraction. I was no longer entitled to groom her precious fur. It was rare day I managed to get more than a couple of strokes of the brush on her. With the heat of summer here she sheds a lot and last year she got a mat. Up until then I was not allowed to brush her but after that she liked it. When I came back after a week in Ohio she had some mats. I think she realized she was in trouble and she let me brush her some. Not as much as she needed or I wanted, but some. Most of the mats were just getting started and I managed to get them out with the brush. She has one medium size mat I have managed to reduce in size over the last week. I am sure it probably hurt some to have me pulling and working on it. I have had to brush around it and then come back to it last so I could brush her. Yesterday I decided to cut out what was left of the mat. It probably was not worth the pain to her and agravation to me get it out by brushing. Its not real big but it was very tightly woven in almost exactly the same spot as last summer. Before dark I tried to get the scissors on it for the first time. After several attempts where I was chasing her around inside and outside, aid from my neighbor, much cussing from cat and humans nothing was accomplished. I told my neighbor thanks for her help but we better all cool off for a couple of hours. All last night, I tried to get the thing cut out. I would sneak in with the scissors hidden and try to get a clean cut on the mat. The trouble was I was always trying to hit a moving target in bad light. I did get most of it but there is what looks like a nub of matted hair remaining. Its even possible that would just come apart with a brushing but quite frankly I was at wits end by this morning. When we came in this morning Maya was reclining on the dresser with the mat sticking out in the open. I took one more shot at it in good light. She hit my hand and I felt the claws hooked on my hand and she started screaming at me. I was mad about the claws and the frustration of the last few days trying to help a stuborn cat, I started yelling back. She would scream at me, I would yell something about ungrateful cats. She would scream back at me. I would yell back, 'too good to be brushed aren't you, now look at you" She screamed something back at me. I yelled back "You wouldn't be so high and mighty after a week out on the street." It went on awhile. It must have sounded insane to my neighbors. 0630 in the morning and me and my cat are having an argument at the top of our lungs. CATS!!!!! |
