But sometimes I wonder what the long-term
effects will be. Over the past few years, my memory has really
declined, and it used to be *excellent*. It could be due to
menopause, but maybe it's the A/Ds. Am I giving myself brain
damage??

Joyce, I believe it. Pre-2004, I had a photographic memory. I still
do, but now there's a big hole in it.

If I pick an item up off the shelf at the store and walk right away to
the checkout, by the time I get there, I will have forgotten the price.
Usually I can guess the numbers but they are all mixed around (like
4.29 vs 2.49, or $32 instead of $23.)

To get to my classes at school, I had to write the numbers down inside
my textbook. If I forgot the textbook I couldn't find the
classroom--even if someone told me the number, I couldn't remember it
long enough to find the room.

I don't know if it was the Effexor, the depression, or the surrounding
neuro damage (like whatever happened that made my left hand go numb for
eight months) but I am not what I used to be, and I'm only 28.

My recurring nightmare, from the year I took 21 units two semesters in a row
while commuting 100 miles a day with kids.

I would be standing in the middle of campus with no idea what so ever what
class I was supposed to be in, what day of the week it was, or where I had
parked the car.

I have that nightmare, too. Often I'm naked as well.

Not being facetious! I have the "I forgot to go to class all semester,
and now it's finals, and I can't find the classroom, and I'll probably
flunk the final anyway because I haven't been studying or going to class
at all, and oh, my god, I'm naked!" dream fairly often.

I am so glad to read that! Now I don't feel weird for having that dream
over and over.

As soon as I wake up I realize it was just a dream - I graduated from
college almost 30 years ago, after all. But while I'm in the dream it is
sure is disturbing.

I think I've heard this is one of the most common dreams. I've had it
numerous times, too. I think it has something to do with suggesting
there is something we need to learn right now (when we have the
dream), but we're oblivious to what it is. No idea for sure; just my
interpretation.

My most common dream is the cats all getting out or being loose or
travelling with me somewhere, and I am freaking out and trying
desperately to round them all up and get them into carriers or inside
or somewhere safe. It's a nightmare when I'm having that one. I've
figured out it usually means that too many things are out of control
in my life, and I need to do something to not be so scattered and
chaotic. And yes, I've had one lately!

I'm glad I"m not the only one who has these nightmares. They're awful.
Oddly enough, I'm not usually naked in those. The last 'naked' dream
I had, I was in the White House, trying to hide in some big room while
my tour group went on through the house. The President's wife saw me.
Eek.

I get that one too, but more often I'm on stage at a major
opera house, singing a leading role in an opera I don't
recognize, and of course not knowing my lines! (Even if my
costume doesn't suddenly evaporate - which it often does -
that's scary enough!)

The Effexor did the same thing to me and to my daughter. That is one drug
that I *would* like to see them take off the market. They are prescribing
it for too many things, not just depression (they gave it to me for my
Fibromyalgia!) - and not only are the side effects dangerous, but the
withdrawals are killer!

On the other hand, the stuff turned me from Mr. Hyde back to Dr. Jekyll
in less than a week. So I'm not sorry I started taking it--I was
starting to get dangerous to live with.

But no way was I listening to the doctor when he tried to get me to
keep taking it on a long-term basis. No thanks. If I start turning
back into Mr. Hyde, I'll go back on the stuff, but UNTIL then, I'll
take my chances. So far, I've been off it for over a year and I have
the occasional sad/down day, but I've yet to get back in the "destroy
everything" state of mind.
