Every time I'm having a love-fest with Basho (our smallest cat, a
Tonkinese), he *insists* on nipping at my nose. He's the only one of our
seven cats who does this. What does it mean? I don't mind it, usually.
Sometimes he manages to snatch a fang inside the nose, and that kinda
hurts, but other than that it's just playful.
Crazy cat.

Waffle used to do that when she was a kitten - it was part of her procedure to
wake me up of a morning. A good game of "See how far I can get a fang up a
human nostril" to the accompanying roar of the purr motor at full speed. I
often wondered, as she did this when she was a kitten, if somehow in the feline
brain, she thought my nose was a nipple.... and she was trying to nurse... But
who are we to figure out the thought patterns of the species higher than us on
the evolutionary scale ;-)

Cheers, helen s

Why? Probably because it is there.

sounds like a lovebite.
I know many cats to do this. Thea does it most frequently of my two, that is
she doesn't really nip just opens her mouth and touches her teeth to my
face. "Katten" in Cyprus also always did this, especially if she thought I
wasn't in the best of moods and needing comforting.
