It is assigned every time a person says they are allergic to their cat. It
is the dander itself not the cat.

The cat produces the dander, right? The cat produces the saliva and the urine.

anyhow...

Now that I'm out of lurk mode...I've got a question.

Anyone else out there allergic to their kitties but choose to suffer like

I do?

I think a better thing to say is allergic to the dander and not the cat
itself. I hate it when people say they are allergic to cats. It makes it
look like they blame the cat when it isn't even their fault.

that's like saying your not allergic to ragweed, but ragweed pollen. You
can't have cat allergens with out the cat.

and most of the cases of cat allergies isn't to the "dander" it is to the
saliva as it dries and flakes off.

But I do not think it is fair to blame the cat. A cat is a beautiful and
wonderful creature and does not deserve the negative connotations.

This is a cat you are talking about. Not a plant.

Yes, some people use it as an excuse not to be around cats

Of course people use it as the reason to not be around cats. A friend of mine
will end up in the ER if she is around cats because she simply can not breathe
around them. Thats the reality...it has nothing to do with "blame".

Let's not forget the fact that cats have no idea we are claiming to be allergic
to them, thus "blaming" them...so, im really not all that concerned. Im pretty
darn sure my cats dont feel any sort of guilt from my "blaming" them for my
allergies.

Pam (who's glad its FRIDAY!)
