USA HAS RECORD BREAKING HEAT

There have been 18 heat- related deaths just in the Chicago area alone. We are very glad that we have air conditioning! Amelia Wow, that is way too hot. Near Seattle, right now at 3:30 pm it it 67 degrees. I am glad you have AC too Love, Mosey for his Hous The temp today reached 103/70 TuTu baked herself on the front patio- now a half-=baked cat. I finally made her come in where she flopped down in front of a fan. I use a fan to supplement the a/c in the sunroom. What a cat! MLB Oh geez, MLB, that is way too hot!! Poor TuTu. She sounds like a sweetheart. And so do you I'm glad you have a fan as well as the a/c Hope you can both keep cool. Love, Aunti Kyla We have a "cool down" predicted for a couple of days. I am "housebound" so I don't have to deal with the heat unless I have a medical appointment -- and I have as few of those as possible. I do remember thinking 100 deg was OK when I was in my teens == a dry heat. It is clouding over a little today so I hope some rain will come this way. Wild fires are still burning but those hardworking firemen say they are getting under control. We are sending our best purrs for those fighting the fires and for all the 4-foots in the areas. Best wishes. MLB I am housebound too and I don't go out unless I go to the doctors, like you. Bless those firefighters hearts for working in such a dangerous situation. We are send our best wishes . We are in the throes of a heat wave here, ourselves, near Seattle. Even with the small a/c on in the living room, it is 82F. I'm sweating like crazy. Best wishes to you, MLB and TuTu also Aunti Kyla Wee R at 96 owtsyde! kumpfy insyde, tho. P2nya purrs and prayers too, and best wishes for all to cool off and |

USA HAS RECORD BREAKING HEAT

THIS FROM YAHOO NEWS In what should come as no surprise to many people living in the United States in the last month or so, the first half of 2012 was officially the hottest ever recorded. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the period from January through June was "the warmest first half of any year on record for the contiguous United States." The average temperature was 52.9 degrees Fahrenheit, or 4.5 degrees above average, the NOAA said on Monday. Twenty-eight states east of the Rockies set temperature records for the six-month period. The 12 months ending on June 30 was the warmest 12-month period of any 12 months on record, according to the NOAA. Record-breaking temperatures blistered most of the United States in June, with more than 170 all-time temperature records broken or tied during the month. On June 28 in Norton, Kansas, for instance, the temperature reached 118 degrees, an all-time high. On June 26, Red Willow, Nebraska, set a temperature record of 115 degrees, eclipsing the 114-degree mark set in 1932. The first six months of the year were also drier than most, with precipitation totals 1.62 inches below average. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, more than half of the country (56 percent) experienced drought conditions--the largest percentage in the 12-year history of the service. The NOAA report comes on the heels of a heat wave that's been blamed for at least 30 deaths and shattered more than 3,000 temperature records in July alone. Not all states have experienced the record-breaking heat, however. Washington had its seventh coolest June on record, the NOAA said. Not all states have experienced the record-breaking heat, however. Washington had its seventh coolest June on record, the NOAA said. That's the State where I live Hope the rest of you can keep cool, somehow Cool hugs Love, Aunti Kyla It was VERY hot last week here, and got up to 101F on the Fourth of July, and 100F three other days, and it was VERY humid, too. I didn't go to watch the fireworks, like I have every year for many decades. I have a small (5000 BTU) window air conditioner in my bedroom, and when it gets really hot, I spend a LOT of time there. I'm sure my electrical bill will be higher, but just cooling one small room shouldn't cost too much money, I hope. There is a BIG window air conditioner that is built into the window in the dining room, where Lorelei's tall cat tree is. It was there when I bought the house in 1979, so it is very old now. It uses a LOT of electricity, and I haven't even turned it on for the last three summers. My Mother, who is 89 years old now, and has many, many health problems, suffers very badly in the hot weather. She has one of those 'saver switches' that turns her whole house air conditioning off for 30 minuets out of every hour on really hot days, and then her AC can't keep up with the heat. I really don't think it's worth saving just 15% of her electricity bill, for the three hottest months, to be so miserable, when it gets really hot outside. I have tried to convince her to get a portable air conditioner for her bedroom, but she doesn't like the idea. |
