[OT] Victor, you didn't tell us! :)
Today, I received this email from a local performing arts center,
about an upcoming event: Friday, September 7th at 8pm mismaluna.com presents Victor Martinez de Oaxaca, Mexico Victor Martinez is considered one of Southern Mexico's best contemporary composers, guitarist and singer songwriters. V?ctor has performed across Mexico and at the Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City as well as music festivals in California, Texas, Puerto Rico and Cuba. His original Oaxacan music is rooted in the folk rhythms and traditions of indigenous and mestizo Mexico. Who knew that we had a rising star among us? Joyce |

My assumption is that the Victor appearing on stage tomorrow night is not our Victor. I was just teasing him. I make this assumption because if our Victor had a musical career, he probably would have told us by now. So I was joking by posting this. (But there really is a guitarist named Victor Martinez who will be performing in San Francisco tomorrow night.) BTW, Victor, have you ever heard of your namesake here? (Hmm. You probably have several namesakes, now that I think of it. Neither Victor nor Martinez is a particularly rare name, after all.) Joyce - has absolutely no namesakes anywhere! |

Victor, You've probably seen my other posts where I explained that, in my opinion anyway, this was very unlikely to be you. For one thing, if you had a major musical career, you'd tell us, wouldn't you?? Also, you are from Texas NOW, so I'm sure that's what the bio would say about you, if it were you. This other Victor probably does live in Oaxaca. Not only that, it said nothing whatsoever about cats, so how could it possibly have been you? Didn't mean to cause confusion. I just found it amusing. If I ever heard of another Joyce Wermont, I think I'd faint. For starters, Joyce is not the most common name in the English language. And as far as I know, there are no Wermonts in the world who are not related to me somehow. (This might be a good time to check this out on Google, though...) Joyce |

I found a few: http://www.google.com/search?q=Joyce...ient=firefox-a Those are probably all me, at least I hope so. However, I did google "Wermont", and I was in for a surprise - there were at least 11 pages of hits (could've been more, but I only got up to page 4). Lots of sites from Eastern Europe, in a variety of languages, including Hungarian, which is not even Slavic. Wow. I stand totally corrected. I guess Wermont is a legitimate last name after all. An ancestor of mine "made it up" when he emigrated to the US. I don't know if he knew that other people had that name or not. As a kid I was told that it was a made-up name and nobody else had it - but then, my parents didn't have Google, did they? One of the things that intrigued me is that "wermont" is also a name for Artemisia absinthium, aka wormwood, an herb used to make absinthe, as well as to flavor vermouth. (In France it is known as "vermouth".) The "wermont" name comes from "Pemb." - I'm not sure what that stands for. Is it Pembroke? Is this in the UK? The info is on this site: http://www.spookspring.com/Artemesia/absinth.html Joyce |

Isn't it true that Martinez is like "Smith" in Spanish? :P Actually a friend of mine named Hernandez insists that Hernandez is like "Smith" in Spanish.
