appeared that yesterday he was trying to mate with a female in heat in the
yard..any explanations?

Just because they are neutered doesnt mean they cannot or will not get
the urge to mate, it simply means that their matings cannot result in
any kittens. The main benefits of neutering are that they are less
likely to get into fights over territory ot females and also that they
wont have undesirable habits lke spraying in the house. I cannot see
anything to worry about, just male cats doing what is a natural
instinct, be fair to him, he has had his "plums" removed, he still
deserves the chance to have a bit of fun!

oh, don't worry, he's a great cat..he's an outdoor cat, semi feral but
friendly to me, it's just that i saw him pouncing on a feral female in the
garden even after i distinctly recall taking him to the vet last yr for
neutering.
