Charley went to the bridge today

This morning Jim's parents called and asked if we would drive them and
Charley to the urgent care animal hospital, as Charley was in really
poor shape and they didn't want to put him through any more pain. Rob
and I went with them to the vet (a really cute little lady) and stayed
with him while he was going through the end. Afterwards we brought him
home and buried him in our back yard. Later on, we'll pick up a stone
for him and place it in Charley's corner of the yard.

Charley was quite a dog. He was adopted in Munich Germany, where Jim's
family was stationed, as a dog for then 10 year old Jim. Of course,
being an animal with a mind of his own, he adopted Jim's dad, Jim III,
as his owner instead.

Charley had an interesting sense of humor. When he first met you, he'd
bark right behind you to see if you jumped. If you did, he'd make sure
that you knew he was behind you as often as he could. I fell for his
routine every time. When you were watching TV, you could count on
Charley to be there with you enjoying the show. He loved his walks, and
wanted to be with his parents whenever possible.

His favorite toys were his pull rope and his stuffed star pillow. He
had a plaid blanket that was HIS bed and loved to sleep where it was.
He was buddies with Pumpkin, the orange tabby, but never worked out who
was in charge where Rascal (lives with us now) was concerned.

Everyone who came to know Charley, knew that he was a special animal and
loved him. We will all miss him and hope that he makes lots of friends
at the Rainbow Bridge.
