Her name is Sugar, a white ball of fluff that survived a fall from her owner's window on the 19th floor of a Boston high rise, reports CBS News affiliate WBZ-Boston. "I look out my window all the time and I think, 'Wow, this is really high,'" Sugar's owner, Brittany Kirk told WBZ. Yep, that's right, Brittany. 19th floor is really high. So keep the window shut so your cat does not fall out of it (or is that just me being too careful?) FGS. No kidding. Maybe a cat has a *better* chance of surviving after falling 19 stories, but it's still 19 stories, and that cat is damn lucky! I'm amazed at how minor the cat's injuries were. -- Joyce I've never lived in a high-rise building but I have to wonder why there weren't some sort screens or bars over those windows. What if Brittany had a young child?! That is one fortunate feline. Jill Building codes usually require window guards, but a cat easily can get through a guard that will stop a baby. Bud |

Didn't this same thing happen to Eric Clapton's child, who died, of course? http://www.contactmusic.com/news/cla...emoirs_1046123 Yes, I remember when that happened. What a tragedy. If you are in high rise and have precious people/cats in there I suggest you make sure the windows are shut. Absolutely. I don't know if you get Home & Garden Television (HGTV) in the UK. No. There's a show called 'House Hunters'. On occasion I'll see people looking at high rise apartments or condominiums with balconies. Invariably these people have a dog. I'm always disturbed because my first thought is my gosh, the dog could spot a bird flying by and leap right over that railing. (shudder) Luckily Boyfie has a ground floor house. I would not keep a dog in a high rise apartment. What do you do if they want to wee or poo? You can't let them out in the garden, can you? Or maybe you get into pee pads? These are for puppies being housetrained only. Most adult dogs would be ashamed to use one, to foul the house. and they should never have to. Tweed |

If I need fresh air, I open the door, which is protected by a latched heavy-duty "security" screen door. The cats enjoy looking out, but can't get out. (There's a rather wide space under the screen door, but it would take a pretty suicidal mouse to sneak in with two vigilant cats in residence.) |

Tweed Most people who live in high rise apartments with dogs are accustomed to regular walks several times a day for the dog's benefit! (Rain or shine - even in Arizona, many folks have raincoats for their pooches.) One reason I've never had a dog is that my taste runs to the larger breeds, and I never thought it fair to the dog not to have a large yard available for them to run in - although I understand Great Danes do just fine in small apartments, because they tend to be canine couch potatoes. |

Does that mean it's a good idea to let your cat fall from the 18th floor or the 19th, Tak? |

Great Danes are hounds. All hounds will become couch potatoes if they are bored. Tweed |
