Once people get the idea that you collect animal figurines (of whatever

This is horribly true. I tell people "I have real live breathing
fur-shedding cats, why would I want a sculpture of one?" but the
message doesn't often get through.

It's not just cats. A friend of mine was given an angel (well, you know,
one of those dolls or statuettes dressed like a Christmas angel) by an
inlaw one Christmas, and honestly admired it and said so. The in-law
figured she was on to a good thing, and has given her angels ever since.
It's been a lot of years, and really, my friend is not a collector and
is running out of places to put Christmas angels, even at Christmas time.

I usually have a cat calendar, and I've been given things like notepaper
with cats on them, but I'm not a collector. If I had been, helping an
elderly relative who does like collecting things downsize into a smaller
place (twice in four years, one involving a long-distance move as well!)
would have cured me.

Oh, well, if you want to count books ...

I don't have that many, but I have a couple of Garfields, a few by an
English author whose name I can't remember and am too lazy to look up about
his cats and his blind wife, and a number of Lillian Jackson Braun's "The
Cat Who" books, as well as some other mysteries involving cats.

I have given 15 (or so) Cat Who books away as well as others I thought
someone might enjoy. One of my favorites was "All my Patients Are Under
the Bed _ I have forgotten the name of the Vet who wrote it. I have
been given several "coffee table books of cat pictures. The pictures
are beautiful but I never spent much time looking at them. I did give
my Vet a book of pictures of very fat tabbies. MLB

I have a collection of cat figures. DH usually buys me them. He even bought
me one for the garden that looks like a cat sitting. I have some earrings
that are cats and a pretty pendant of a cat.

I don't collect them as such, I sometimes get them for gifts. The most cat
items I acquired at one time is when I helped clear out my friend's house
after she'd passed away. She was a real cat lover.
I brought home with me a shopping bag with cats on which I use every time I
go to the supermarket, a glass model of a curled up cat with space for a
candle in the middle, a new comfy blanket with cats on which I use every day
during the winter to keep me warm when I am sitting downstairs, several cat
mugs (which I haven't used yet as I have a favourite mug that I always make
my tea in) and some cat books.
My sister bought me a nice cat print by- I forget who without going to look
at it - Cats in a Conservatory, for my last birthday.

Well, I'm looking at the bookshelf in my bedroom:

That's the only one on your list I have - present from an ex-girlfriend.

I also have a beautiful Turkish book of cat cartoons with associated
poems, Selcuk Demirel's "Kagittan Kediler", which I mean to translate
when I get a round tuit.

[Huge list snipped for brevity]

Wow! You could open up your own cat library! I did notice a few
repetitions - unless you really do have 2 copies of those books.

However, there are few that weren't on the list that I can recommend,
if you're still in the market for more cat books:

The Fur Person by May Sarton - Story of a "gentleman cat's" adventures,
told from his point of view.

The Dewey book has a sequel. I have to get around to reading that myself.

The Tribe of Tiger is interesting. It's all about "cat culture", how
cats learn things from each other and then pass them on. If you're
interested I'll get the author's name for you. Oh, wait, you can do that
yourself online!

A Cat Named Spit McGee - forget this author's name, too. It's about a
cat-hater who married a cat-lover, which changed his life.

There are plenty more, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

I personally like getting cat-related presents. My favourite birthday
gifts that I got were a beanie baby black and white kitten that looks
like Kotyo's twin brother, and a t-shirt with Kotyo's picture on it that
a friend gave me (she was very sneaky about it, too - I was totally
surprised when I opened my present and my little monster's face was
staring at me from a t-shirt).

Here's the monster hanging out with his beanie-baby twin:
https://picasaweb.google.com/nnakova...65767305132146

And this is the picture on my t-shirt.
https://picasaweb.google.com/nnakova...67699253198866

Unfortunately I wore the t-shirt so much that it is now too ratty for
wearing outside of the house. But did wear it when we flew with Kotyo
from Canada to Spain. I knew I would have to take him out of the carrier
at the x-ray scanners, so I figured, if somehow he got away from me and
I had to go searching for him around the airport, it would be easier if
I could just point to my t-shirt and say "have you seen this cat?"

I also have a bunch of other beanie baby cats of various sizes, some I
bought and some were gifts. And blankets with cats on them, and pillows,
and a cat clock (a kitty sleeping on a stack of books). And a *ton* of
cat jigsaw puzzles. Oh, and a throw that I use as a wall hanging because
it is too pretty to actually use as a throw.
https://picasaweb.google.com/nnakova...88710745204482

I think I am well on the way to becoming a crazy cat lady. I just need a
few more cat-related things...

He's *gorgeous*! And adorable. No wonder you're crazy about him. Just
looking at those pictures, I want to cuddle him. He's so fuzzy and
fluffy. But there are also some really pretty pictures of him posing
all dewy-eyed for the camera.

He's dwarfed by that cat "tapestry" wall hanging. And I'll bet you
never expected anyone to say he was dwarfed by anything.

By the way, I never responded to your happy news post (bad RPCA member!
bad!) - but I was so glad to read it! That's an incredible relief. What
a scary BCT that was. And now he's probably starting to wonder whatever
happened to his cucumber snacks.
