The 16-year-old cat survived a breathtaking 20-story plunge from an
Upper West Side apartment window with barely a scratch.

WTH?

They don't give details, except that the cat was found on a SIDEWALK.

It's not a miracle. There have been cats reported surviving falls like that
before.

I'd like to crucify the cat owners. Left the window open 6" (inches) and
didn't think the cat could get through it? Come on! Cats can get into
unbelievable spaces. You don't just leave the window open and think a
curious cat isn't going to investigate. A pox! on the owners for letting
this happen while they went off to Cape Cod. Sheesh.

Exactly. 3" just MIGHT be safe, for a large cat.....but I simply
wouldn't leave any windows open more than an inch, with a cat in a 20
story apartment...and no screens.

The big mystery is how it didn't happen sooner.

I remember kitten proofing my house, some years ago. You have assume
that cats/kittens WILL get into everything they POSSIBLY can.
