Book Review: Dewey
Dewey by Vicki Myron with Bret Witter
Grand Central Publishing Hardcover $19.95 USD Dewey Readmore Books started his life in an Iowa library by being shoved into the metal book return box in the Spencer town library on a week end night. Discovered on a Monday morning, Dewey had frost bite on his paw pads and an irrepressible charm. His life story is the subject of this book by the head librarian working with Bret Witter, who ghost wrote the book with her. Myron does not gloss over the events of Dewey's life, from trying to get the local town council and library councils to agree to let him be a part of the library, to the changes he had in many lives, to the conditions in the town in the 80s farm bust, to the end of Dewey's 19 year residency. Dewey was just one of those cats that love people and want to be with them. The book is illustrated with pictures of Dewey in action, definitely KFW and CFW. I was told that this was a four hanky book by the sales clerk at my local Books A Million. She was wrong, it was a five hanky book. I laughed at some parts cried at others. Long before the end of the book I was recommending it to local friends. I heartily recommend it to you as well. Pam S. |

Pam S. Well, I'll give it another try. I'm a pretty avid reader and I've been unable to get "into" this book. Right now, I'm on the author's boring Iowa childhood and background. He's a cute kitty, that's for sure, but so far, it hasn't exactly been riveting reading for me. Candace |

Candace I just read the first part of chapter one (excerpt posted online by my local library), and I'm already in tears. -- ^..^ This is Kitty.
