Default Sammy's new hiding place

I written before about Sammy and thunderstorms. She starts making
herself scarce long before I see the first flash or hear any thunder.
When I wake to the fact that a storm is rolling in and she's hiding, I
find her and tell her everything is ok.

Well, spring is coming to Oklahoma, which means so are the storms. We
had one last night, and I looked high and low but couldn't find her
latest storm shelter for the longest time. Finally, while I searched
the bedroom for the umpteenth time, I saw a bump move under the
bedspread when there was a particularly loud clap of thunder. So, I
knelt down and stuck my head under the spread and talked to her for a
while. Before long she was actually purring, but definitely not
considering coming out of her newfound saferoom.

Little Bit and Rocky aren't bothered in the least by thunder. Rocky
doesn't seem to even notice them, and Little Bit lays in the window to
watch the show (unless of course there's hail - which is a whole other
story). They followed me around the apartment, no doubt wondering why
I was going around calling Sammy when there were two cats right out in
the open who were willing to be cuddled.

Once I found Sam, Little Bit settled on top of the bookcase where she
could laugh at the crazy hoomin talking with his head under the
blanket. Rocky came up and started pawing at my side to let me know he
was right there and looking for scritches.

I went and made sure everything was turned off, got a book, and
crawled into bed. Sammy was glad to see me back, and promptly came
over and wrapped her front paws around my leg. Once she realised I had
my hand under the covers she came up and rested her head on my hand -
she doesn't really like to be cuddled, but likes contact.

I must have fallen asleep, because about 1 Sammy woke me up crawling
over me to go check the food bowl. The storm was over, so I turned out
the lights and went back to sleep.

Poor Sammy. Marley (RB) was petrified of storms and hid inside the old
couch I had for the duration. Shadow used to be, but apparently can't hear
thunder as well here in my new house so is ok. You're a good Paw to comfort
her during her fright.

Yes, Persia is very afraid of thunderstorms. But the funny thing is, she
came with me into the bathroom a couple of years ago when a tornado siren
(talking!) went off right out outside my apartment in the middle of the
night. I had just gotten up, then the power went off. Oh crap. I huddled
in the bathtub with a blanket, flashlight and pillow. It was still storming
like mad outside and the moment I started fretting about Persia she came
into the bathroom and huddled next to the tub. I jumped up long enough to
shut the bathroom door. Good kitty!

Glad you were able to comfort Sammy. Glad the storm was just that, a noisy
storm and not something worse.

Poor Sammy. You're a good Paw to comfort her during storms. My "little
sister" Thompson (1970-1987) was terrified of thunder, too, and you would
know that a thunder storm was coming up because she would start slinking
about on her belly half an hour before it hit. Then she went down and hid in
my Dad's office, which was in the cellar.

When I was new to Australia we lived at a suburb called Malabar,
next door was a nice family, Dad Mother and grown up son
they had a dog and a cat which were never allowed in the house,
but the laundry attached to the house contained two blanket beds
of which only one was ever used, they snuggled up together and
groomed each other. Sandy the dog was terrified of storms, but
was never invited in the house even then, I invited him in our house
once and ever after that he would come knocking on our door,
like *Thomson* about half an hour before it hit if I had any
washing on the line when Sandy knocked, I would immediately
dash out to get it as Sandy was never wrong,he would stick close to me
wherever I went even to the bathroom shivering poor thing
I could never understand why they had pets if they couldn't
be inside the house. Jean.P.

Under the bedspread is where TuTu hides when we have thunderstorms ,
She has been doing this for several years. The first time she did it,
I was a long time finding her.
