A human note: I am well aware that a man, an innocent bystander from
all accounts, was killed and two other men were mauled. Their tragedy
is real too and no one would ignore it.

Now there's word that one of the people who were killed may have
enticed
the cat out after all. I think they found a shoe or something in the
moat this morning.

IF this turns out to be true, all I can say is, what a stupid idiot...

If so, yes, it's evolution in action, but just finding a shoe in the
moat doesn't mean anything. There's many ways it could have got in
there.

Oh, I realize that. We'll have to wait and see what the SFPD turns up
in its investigation. They've still got two people who were injured by
the tiger but are still alive that they can talk to.

I also read something about the wall around Tatiana's habitat being too low.
I mean, HELLO! Tigers are members of the cat family, and cats are naturally
good jumpers. Maybe the zookeepers should have thought of that when they
built the habitat.

I also tend to believe 50% of what is said about the tiger being taunted,
also bearing in mind that the year before, she had attacked a zoo employee
that was feeding her.

"Taunged" covers a lot of ground and they may have just been hanging
around lonter than she liked.

The fact that the kid who was killed was not the one first attacked
and evidently died because he and the other young man stuck around and
tried to draw her off her first victim made me proud to be a member of
the human race. That may have been stupid but it's MY kind of stupid.

I really, really, really am having a VERY hard time understanding WHY
this wall is four FEET shorter than it should be. This is per the
agency that ACCREDITATES zoos, fer cryin' out loud!!! What... this
agency just looked the other way when the awarded the SF zoo its
accreditation???

Even if it's just an "award", so to speak, for the zoo to hang its hat
on, and is not absolutely needed in order for the zoo to operate, not
being accredited by this particular agency (which I forget the name of
at the moment) because of a lower than standard enclosure wall would
have raised some red flags along the way SOMEWHERE, wouldn't you think?!

Also, wouldn't the state have stepped in at some point and shut the
tiger exhibit down until a higher wall was built???!!

Seriously, this whole issue the lower than standard wall really,
really befuddles me a lot.

I also tend to believe 50% of what is said about the tiger being taunted,

As do I.

also bearing in mind that the year before, she had attacked a zoo employee

Exactly. Granted, there were steps taken to ensure that, come feeding
time, the same thing wouldn't happen to another keeper that may have
been doing the feeding the NEXT time around. However, wouldn't zoo
officials say to themselves, "We've definitely got ourselves a more
dangerous than usual zoo animal here [if there is such a thing as "more
dangerous" when it comes to zoo animals], so maybe she should be shipped
to a habitat that's better suited for her.", after the very FIRST
attack?!

that was feeding her.

Debby

Much like what's happening with the Bhutto situation in Pakistan, I
believe that more information about the attack by this tiger is going to
become public in the near future that totally contradicts what we know
to be "the truth", so to speak, thus far. There's something that's just
plain weird that doesn't add up, about both situations, if you ask me.
