That's it. That's what they were worried about. Today's xrays showed
more clearly it was some stool that just looked odd. I saw all the xrays
and it was hard to tell but much clearer today. She is home and settling
down. I am waiting for her to feel less stressed. She has some
antibiotics to take since it's pretty clear she has some kind of
infection. They think maybe this history of periods of nausea may
indicate kind of a chronic pancreatitis. She's been hospitalized about 4
times now for nausea in 5 or 6 years. I haven't had to pill Sugar much,
so wish me luck. Should be OK. I just hope she eats and doesn't throw up
now. But she looks fairly OK. thanks so much everyone for the good
thoughts. I know they help ME for sure. Let's cross our fingers that all
returns to normal soon.

Lots and lots of purrs and best wishes that it is only an infection that
can easily be cleared up with the antibiotics,

the pilling has gone quite well! The pill popper makes it pretty easy
and I have a cat tree just the right height that I can tuck her under
one arm and pill with the other. The pricey part is the canned chicken
broth (not canned broth but the kind that comes with canned chicken - I
drain it off). Since she WILL drink that right up, I have that ready
for after pilling to make it a happier experience as well as chase the
pill down. I just realized, I've never had to give her medication
before (besides the occassional pepcid). She has been eating fine since
yesterday evening and kept everything down, so I think we are on the
mend.

Poor Karen, you do seem to have bad luck with your kitty's health. I am so
glad it wasn't an intusseption (sp?) when a section of intestine collapses
and pushes itself inside another section, sort of like a finger of a rubber
glove when it refuses to get itself straight when you take your hand out.
Some dogs can get this, certain breeds are prone to it, it often goes along
with gastric torsion and without very swift action, it's fatal. Bloodhounds
are particularly prone to get it, hounds in general though suffer most from
it. I'm not sure why, maybe because they have deep chests which doesn't
leave a lot of room for stomach expansion when they've eaten.
I was advised that placing their meal up on a stand so they could eat at
head height rather than from floor level helped to prevent it, so I always
did that. Also the advice was, if they really gobbled up their food, to put
medium sized stones in the food bowl, they then can't grab whole huge
mouthfuls and gulp them down. They then have to take their time licking it
up around the stones. Apparently it works. but don't quote me on this.

Rotties can be prone to gastric torsion too, Catnipped alert..

Wonderful news all around! When I had to give the cats ringworm
medication, I always gave them some turkey coldcuts afterwards. But
then, they are absolute angels.

Default Sugar in hospital

On 2006-01-14, Karen penned:
high. So, for sure that probably would cause nausea. So any purrs
for Sugar for clear xrays that don't show this rare condition (that
the vet said would be very VERY bad if she had it) would be much
appreciated. I begin to think I am cursed when it comes to my cats.

Purrs for Sugar.
