problem out of the litter box
My cat, 11 years old, recently started having bowel movements outside the
littler box. This started about 2 months ago and happened every 5/6 days. In the last weel she has done this 4 days in a row. She has been to the vet numerous times and he doesn't think it is a medical problem. He suggested an extra litter box, uncovering the one we already have and even possibly changing the litter......all things we have tried....still she goes where she wants. It's odd that she occasionally uses it. I keep it very clean (as the vet suggested), but still can't seem to get this under control. Any suggetsions?????????????? I really would apptreciate it! |

Get a second opinion from another vet. Sounds like a medical problem to me.

I agree with Gail in getting another opinion. Also, have you tried box(es) that have very low sides in case she has arthritis or other leg pain and it's hard for her to get in. Are you using _unscented_ litter? The smell of some litters is too perfume-y for some cats (and people, I don't buy it). Is there a chance she's constipated--adding some plain canned pumpkin to her diet (a small amount, such as a teaspoon) can help. |

Have you changed the litter at all? That may have an affect, also if
she stressed at all? That tends to affect urination though more. If the litter tray is dirty they may not use it again. If vets are not helping might be good to speak to a behaviourist instead. |
