I think you can do this, Tak.

I'm learning a little bit every day. I see a little bit of Kitty Farm Cat
in her, and something more. Maybe she's just an unusual cat, but I think I
need to have her completely checked over by my vet as soon as she's tame
enough for me to crate. Her stiff gait, voracious appetite, thin limbs...
make me wonder if she has physical issues such as with her thyroid,
kidneys, etc.

How old is she? Voracious appetite rules out kidney problems for me but as
for the stiff gait, thin limbs, I have no clue.
Boyfie was impossible to get to the vet for while too. You just have to wait
until you can eventually get them into in a crate. ISTR it took me 4 or 5
months to get him into a crate for his snip. but he had no other issues.
Why not phone your vet and explain your worries even if you can't catch her?
You'd have a good idea then about what to do about Spicey's health. Over
here, you can have a home visit from the vet, although it costs a lot more
it is sometime worth it.

"if" I didn't have a cat, Spicey is exactly the sort of cat I would take on.
A vile-tempered no-hoper.
Just like Kitty Farmcat!

I would also take on an elderly intact tom with bad moods. He'd get the
snip. I don't really mind whether he would like me, Kitty could be awful
to me. I got used to it. Yet she was so charming to others and very good
with tiny children.
She took her bad moods out on her meowmie.

That sounds like a good idea. Did Suz ever mention that Spicey had any
health problems?

You seem to be making really fast progress with her. I'm sure it helps
that she already knows and likes you, so even though this big change is
traumatic to her, maybe you're the one safe thing in her life right now.

I had the same thought about Kitty Farmcat. Small cats with big
personalities.

She's shut in one bedroom. I'm the *only* thing in her life right now.
Well, me, and the wet food.

Spicey has had one incident where she had a growth surgically removed.
Nothing about a chronic problem. In fact, I would not be very surprised if
that was the only time she'd been to the vet...

She's 9.5. But she looks considerably older. The drinking and peeing might
be diabetes. The weak limbs and appetite might be hyperthyroid. But we
can't really distinguish for sure without testing. I'll give her a little
while to settle down and become easier to handle, and then off to TED.

As others have already said, it is an excellent sign that she's eating
in front of you. My Sweety is very easily startled and will refuse to
eat if anyone so much as walks down the hallway while she's in the
kitchen. To have Spicey eating practically from your hand after just a
few days is amazing progress.

I've had Kotyo and Sweety purring for you and Spicey and Dot and Buster,
and I'll keep the purrs going for as long as they are needed.

Nadia, Kotyo and Sweety

OMG, I'm not looking forward to introducing Spicey to those two.

When you feel the time is right, you might want to introduce them one at a
time, so the others can't gang up on her.

Do they seem curious about what's going on upstairs? Do they notice
you going upstairs and not coming down for a while (if that wasn't
your normal pattern before Spicey came)? You must have a cat smell on
you after you've visited her - do either of them seem interested in
that? I wonder if they have any idea that there's a *cat* up there.

Spicey will probably gang up on them. But that's a good idea. Actually,
they'll be introduced first through a mesh screen, probably.

They so far seem completely oblivious. To them, the upstairs might almost
as well be "out", so they only show marginally more interest in my going
upstairs than when I go out to the grocery store or something.

Have you got a radio playing very low in her room? Maybe she's just really bored with the silence.

My opinion is still that Suz could not care for her and her aides didn't.

I hope she comes good. I think she has not been cared for by Suz's aides as
it was not their remit.
well, if I was that aide, I wouldn't mind caring for her in my own time and
not be paid for it.

she hasn;t been cared for bvy Syz;s aides
