Smithsonian article on cats and flu
I had no idea we can give our cats the flu!
http://tinyurl.com/9yrdtlh Something else I read in a textbook on allergy medicine: about 10% of dogs and cats are allergic to people (with the same symptoms as human allergy: usually asthma and eczema). ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- e m a i l : j a c k @ c a m p i n . m e . u k Jack Campin, 11 Third Street, Newtongrange, Midlothian EH22 4PU, Scotland mobile 07800 739 557 http://www.campin.me.uk Twitter: JackCampin |

I feel bad for the person who had to be hospitalized with swine flu, and meanwhile, his/her two cats got the flu and died from it. I don't feel especially scared about the "mutating vector" thing, though - I mean, humans have been getting the flu for who knows how long, and we've had pets for a very long time, and so far, no pandemics have been caused by killer cat viruses. Just because scientists are starting to discover this particular vector, doesn't mean something drastically different is going to happen any time soon. The word "zoonoses," meaning diseases that are spread from one species to another, is pronounced "zo-uh-NO-seez." I found this out about 10 minutes ago by looking it up. Before that, I was staring at the word trying to figure out how to pronounce it, and one thing that came to mind was "zoo noses." -- Joyce Mother teach me to walk again Milk and honey, so intoxicating -- Sarah McLaughlin |

LOL I'm not really worried about this because I'm not prone to getting the flu. I just thought it was an interesting article. Jill |

We're allergic to the dander that comes from the saliva and is spread when they clean themselves. I can't speak for everyone but I rarely lick myself all over. (insert joke about licking other folks here) Forget trying to look this up on internet. Anything linking people pets and allegies are all one way. |
