... after my shoulder repair. i went to see the specialist surgeon that i was waiting for at 11 a.m. on 5th april and by 2.30 pm he was operating on me. he said it was a very severe injury and it would be impossible to get the dislocated bone back in place without opening up the joint and besides that, there was a piece of bone broken off that would need pinning back on. he was very pleasant and never said a word about waiting too long before seeking help. i was in hospital for 2 days and then went to stay with my aunt as she had all the equipment needed e.g. stairlift, bathlift, for looking after my uncle who has had a stroke - otherwise they were unwilling to let me out to go home alone. i'd only been out of hospital for a few hours on the thurs when i was struck down - and that is not too dramatic a phrase - by a tummy bug so bad that by the saturday my aunt called out the emergency doctor at 11 pm as i was in agony with abdominal pain. i had to go back to hospital sunday morning - they said i'd picked it up on the ward. only today i feel slightly better from that, i managed to eat some toast and soup. boyfie was so thrilled to see me he could not stop meowing for over an hour and keeps jumping on the arm of my chair to headbutt my face and gaze at me lovingly - it's a real lovefest. june has been brilliant with him, she says he soon got used to her and started to wait for her to come. i have a really posh sling on, all foam and velcro but it's round my waist and neck too and they put it on when i was naked on the operating table so i can't get dressed in any meaning of the word - cunning plan. on tues i go back to the fracture clinic to have my stitches out and find out the full extent of the screws/pins and what the prognosis is. i know i've damaged nerves that control a muscle that raises my arm, so we'll just have to see. retrospective purrs and prayers for anyone who needed them while i was gone. tweed and happy, happy boyfie I'm glad you're back, sweetie! I know what you're going through, I had the same surgery on each shoulder (not at the same time thankfully). On the right shoulder they didn't have enough tissue to do a repair, so they just put in a pin and "tied down" most of the tendons with surgical wire - but they had to just sever the biceps tendon. I hope you have a speedy recovery - and remember, as much as it hurts, PT is *ESSENTIAL* to a full recovery and use of that arm. -- Hugs, CatNipped See all our masters at: http://www.PossiblePlaces.com/CatNipped See the RPCA FAQ site, by Mark Edwards, at: http://www.professional-geek.com/rpcablog/ Email: L(dot)T(dot)Crews(at)comcast(dot)net |

You have been through hell and back all told but I hope the worst is over now. I knew something was bad wrong with your shoulder just from your description but never imagined it was as bad as it turned out to be. Good relatives and friends are priceless jewels to have in your life at times of dire need. So very good you could at least be free of concern about Boyfie's welfare while you were undergoing all this. I have seen that kind of "sling" (immobilization device) you have. You have a whole lot of things that need to heal. Warm wishes for speedy and successful recovery. ------------ first of all i would like to thank everyone who has replied to this thread, i really appreciate each and every one but i still feel sick from the tummy bug and too tired to reply to all. you are the chosen recipient of the update, hops, as you are medically trained. i went to the fracture clinic on tues. i had to have an x-ray to make sure my shoulder was still in place - it is. i then had to have my wound attended to. i asked how many stitches i had - they said one. the external wound, maybe five inches long was sealed with steristrip tapes but there was a long piece of catgut or something growing out of my shoulder that was taped down near my elbow. the nurse got some sort of flat thingie that she wound it round like reeling in a fishing line and i felt it coming out from the joint. i suspect boyfie thinks something is wrong - he has not hunted for months but i had a mouse and a vole in the last two days |
