Default Muriel's gone

We've just got back from having Muriel put to sleep. By this morning
she'd got too weak to move about any more and had no interest in food
or water. She still purred right to the end.

It didn't go very smoothly, she kept pulling her leg away when the
vet put the needle in. So she had to be sedated first. The sedative
must have given her a dry mouth as she started smacking her chops -
the last thing I could do for her was to soak my handkerchief under
the tap and squeeze water into her mouth. She seemed contented after
that.

She's curled up in the hallway wrapped in old shirt of mine, for
the other cats to see. She looks very peaceful. Splodge has been
sitting beside her ever since I put her there.

We're going to bury her beside Ishmael in the garden. They hated
each other most of their lives, but mellowed towards the end, and
when Ishmael was dying Muriel was snuggled up beside him all the
time.

Bless my little grey friend.

She knew you would do whatever was right and she loves you for it.

You were good to her in the minor things as well as the major. No
point in her having a dry mouth.

I was already crying.

So he will greet her at the Bridge and show her around. And then they
will play, and quarell, and wait for you.

Bless my little grey friend.

Bless you and yours. Purrs from everyone at my house.

I'm very sorry to hear that Muriel's time has come, Jack - purrs for her
passing and for you both. It's such a very hard thing to have to do.

I'm very sorry, Jack. My sincere condolences. You did what was best for
her, and I'm sure she thanks you for that.

Jack I knew from what you said a few days ago in another thread that
the time was coming and all I can say is I am so sorry that it has
come

Funny when Fugazi was sedated, the vet's assistant passed me a damp
sponge in case she "seemed thirsty". She didn't through

Sending purrs
