We've just got back from having Muriel put to sleep. By this morning
she'd got too weak to move about any more and had no interest in food
or water. She still purred right to the end.

It didn't go very smoothly, she kept pulling her leg away when the
vet put the needle in. So she had to be sedated first. The sedative
must have given her a dry mouth as she started smacking her chops -
the last thing I could do for her was to soak my handkerchief under
the tap and squeeze water into her mouth. She seemed contented after
that.

She's curled up in the hallway wrapped in old shirt of mine, for
the other cats to see. She looks very peaceful. Splodge has been
sitting beside her ever since I put her there.

We're going to bury her beside Ishmael in the garden. They hated
each other most of their lives, but mellowed towards the end, and
when Ishmael was dying Muriel was snuggled up beside him all the
time.

Bless my little grey friend.

I'm sorry Jack, even when you know it's coming it still hurts like hell.

Poor Jack and poor Splodge. Purrs and kind thoughts are coming from
here for all of Muriel's friends and family. We never have them long
enough.

Purrs for your little grey friend, your aching heart, and your clowder

There was one cat that loved his slaves that he would fight so hard not to
leave. By now, I am sure that he knows how much his slaves DID love him.
Prayers for your pain.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. It sounds like Muriel was fighting to
stay with you :-( I'm sure she is feeling much better at the Bridge, and
is happy that you were able to help her on her way there.

But you are left without her now, and I know that pain all too well.

I neglected to mention that I have lit a candle for Muriel in my very
special candle holder, in the shape of a sleeping cat. The cat is curled
around where the candle goes.
