Dog Food For Cats??
A cat rescue group I work with has been given a large donation of dog
food...Chicken Soup is the name of some of it. Can we add anything to make it suitable for cats? Can we mix it with cat food? It seems to be missing taurine for one ingredient. Taurine is available in pill form, but, besides the work of pilling 50 or more cats every day, it would be cheaper to buy cat food. Betty |

Betty I think that it would be safer to just not use it, Dog food just does not meet the nutritional requirements of a cat and they can get very ill if fed dog food for their diet. I would try to trade it and if that was not possible, I would just give it away to some other organization and buy cat food for the cats. In addition to the lack of Taurine, Dog food does not have the required amount of protein for cats. Dags are more omniverous than cats and this shows in their food, there are often largish portions of veggies in it Since it did not cost your organization, then you really aren't taking a loss by giving it away right? better to be safe than sorry. |
