Apparently you have not tried the Atkins diet on yourself. I have.
Raised blood pressure significantly AND increased serum sodium levels
significantly... do the point I needed two medications to correct for
2 months. Now... I did ASK if these side effects were also
frequently present in felines. What was your answer? Please spare
me your agenda if you can. Thanks.

I´m sorry I overreacted. For a second I thought you were another
salesman parroting Phil Pass. I do the Atkins every once in a while
but for only 20 days or so. Never bothered to do a blood panel. But
according to the researches mentioned in the article I linked, all
people participating in them benefitted greatly from the diet. I
suggest you go to that link if you haven´t yet. Just as a side note,
your blood pressure could have risen because of eating more salt, and
not because of the protein/fat content of the diet.

So Liz... what's your "Healthy Kidney" diet? Let me guess. It does
not include meats, salt, carbs, or proteins, but includes lots of
water. Ok, go ahead. ;-)

LOL. Actually, recent studies have proved that excess protein is not
detrimental to kidneys. If I remember correctly, back in the 30´s a
scientist studied a high protein diet in rats and concluded that this
diet is detrimental to kidneys. Many decades later, a scientist
discovered that the rats the first scientist had used to draw that
conclusion were from a strain that was naturally prone to kidney
failure. The studies were repeated with healthy strains of rats and no
kidney damage was observed.

Excess salt is not directly linked to high blood pressure. I need to
eat lots of salt because I have low blood pressure (10/6). It is
suspected that high blood pressure is caused by a genetic defect in
the sodium pump of cells and scientists are currently studying this to
see if it holds.

Get between me and a good steak and see what happens. There well be
no discussion and the results of your efforts will be similar! ;-)

Phil, I have great news for you. To make you, myself, and probably
everyone in this newsgroup happy, I will no longer read or reply to
your posts

Great! I'm sure that will make a *lot* of people happy! You would make
even more people happy - other than your fanatical and extremist cult - and
it would also be a helluva lot *safer* world for cats if you didn't post at
*all*!

(or those of your parrot Gaubster).

LOL! That's fuuny considering you have your own parrot, Lauren! LOL! You
two should start your own newsgroup so you can agree with each other and pat
yourselves on the back all day!

Here's a free tip: Since you want to portray yourself as some kind of
"wiz", it might help your credibility a tad if you actually knew something
about cats insteas of relying soley on your chemistry set manual. Since you
have nothing to do all day, you should volunteer in an animal shelter. Not
only would you learn something about cats, but you might even bump into a
few vets who would explain how utterly asinine your theories are before you
post your nonsense and endanger the lives of cats.

Btw, your post was a pretty good attempt at diverting attention away from
the fact that you *still* couldn't produce a *single* documented case of
EQ-related illness or death in *one* cat in the entire ~30 years EQ has been
used in cat food! But don't worry, your secret is safe with me! ROTFL!

Please ... in the interest of educational discouse, would YOU
supply some links and .... post the keywords you used in Google
or your search engine of choice? :-)

I only rely on peer-reviewed veterinary medical journals and the
Veterinary Medical Data Base at Purdue...

"Peer Reviewed" Is any meaningful dissent of opinion allowed?

That's what "peer-reviewed" means!

I know... the FDA and OSHA references were pretty lame ... to
you.

LOL! You didn't happen to notice the quantities of ethoxyquin
used in the reports... did you...? Shucks! LOL!

Now, go find a *single* documented case of ethoxyquin-related
illness or death in a cat when ethoxyquin was used at the
recommended levels used in cat food....

I
like the 3rd link showing the inclusion of BHA / E by various
food forumulations and brand name. What say you?

That's the funny part about the "perils" of ethoxyquin scare
tactics that have been perpetuated by breeder newsletters and au
naturel fanatical cults... There isn't a *single* documented case
of ethoxyquin-related illness or death in a cat, when ethoxyquin
is used at the recommended levels, in the hundreds of millions of
cats and have eaten dry food preserved with ethoxyquin and in the
almost 30 years that ethoxyquin has been used in cat foods.

Gee, I could have sworn I said this about 100 times.... and still
no one has been able to produce a *single* documented case from a
peer-reviewed veterinary medical journal....

I have only been visiting here for less than two weeks

You might want to lurk for awhile or read the Google archives to get an idea
of the topics that have been disussed.

and, it was by
an invitation.

Gee, I wonder who invited you? !
