A breakthrough!
It's thundering outside and has been pouring down rain. Persia did her
usual hide in the closet thing. But it seems she decided "What the heck, if Mom can stand it so can I". So she spent about 10 minutes on my lap as I read some posts, then she jumped down and is currently meatloafing by my chair. It's still thundering but she has not run to hide again. Maybe she's decided I was right after all, it's just "noisy weather". We'll see how long this lasts, but hopefully she's finally getting over her fear of thunder. Jill -- I used to have a handle on life...but it broke off. |

I wish Stinky wouldn't do the creepin' Jesus thing down to the basement every time it thunders, but after so long, I guess I can't expect him to change that. It's about four hours later here and now, and the worst of a very heavy thunderstorm has just passed - it's still a thunderstorm, but I can see the woods about 1/4 mile away - at the height of the storm, I could barely see the road 200 ft. away. Fluffy is taking it fairly well: she's not hiding, but she has been a bit more than usually demanding. Dandy is on the bed, acting like nothing is happening. Ozy is on a small table in the mud room just sort of waiting it out. And much better than last storm, Maryweather was inside before it started - last storm, she came in about ten minutes into it, sopping wet and looking like a drowned rat. I took a picture - I can't remember the URL, and the server is down ... all the machines around my desk are down. I am *not* going in to restart them (and several other servers) tonight - they will just have to wait until tomorrow morning, even though it is a personal inconvenience for me not having some of them up where I can get at them. I posted about Maryweather in alt.cats under the subject "Web cat" - if anybody wants the picture, get the link from there and wait until about 8 AM CDT Friday to give me time to restart the server. The other seven cats were caught outside - I have no idea where they are, but I expect the next several hours will bring an intermittent stream of wet feet walking over me in bed. -- T.E.D. ) |

Sammy, also terrified of thunder, no longer hides under the bedspread if I keep reassuring her that the loud noise will remain outside and can't hurt her. Soooo much better than when she used to be so terrified that she would pull out clumps of hair. -- Steve Touchstone, faithful servant of Sammy and Little Bit [remove Junk for email] Home Page: http://www.sirinet.net/~stouchst/index.html Cat Pix: http://www.sirinet.net/~stouchst/animals.html |
