I'd like to thank whoever it was who told me about getting their story
accepted to the Smarter than Jack animal story anthology.

I checked out the web site and now, Smokey's story is going to be
appearing in "Rescued Animals are Smarter than Jack." The book will be
out in September.

So, Smokey-poke's a celebrity and it's all thanks to RPCA! Actually I
should thank all of you. Writing the story was just like writing
another RPCA post.

WOW! Concatulations, Smokey! You deserve fame after your bad start in
life.
I know how you feel, Fil, one of my whippets appeared for 10 days in a
musical called "The Hired Man" by Andrew Lloyd-Webber, I was so proud of her
I thought she should have had a taxi backwards and forwards to the theatre
;-)
She behaved impeccably on stage, except for once..

Oh, orlrite.. It was a musical about miners in the North East of England,
and it was essential for one of the characters to have a whippet on a rope.
My Minnie was chosen in the interviews (around 50 turned up for the job)
Minnie had a very sweet temperament. It didn't take her long to get used to
her new friends in the theatre, she liked them ALL and they liked her.
There was a scene where the actors had to freeze into the background like
statues whilst something else took place in the foreground. Minnie was fine
with this for over a week. She stood like a statue too. That's my girl!
Then she decided she really liked the chap that was handling her and kept
wagging her tail and wanting a smurgle. That was passed off fairly easily
during the performance but the next night while he was supposed to be frozen
she put her tongue up his nose..
The audience fell about laughing and Minnie was excused from further theatre
duties.:-(

Ohh they FIRED her for that? That's terrible. We did a show at the playhouse
that required a cat one time. It mostly sat around. Until one night a mouse
kept running across stage. It was pretty distracting but luckily it was a
comedy

Here's another laugh for you. When I lived in Edinburgh, I used to walk
up the Royal Mile with Bonnie sometimes. There was always a bloke on
the corner in full highland dress playing the bagpipes for the
tourists. Bonnie quite often used to walk off-leash as it was a
pedestrian zone and she's well mannered. One day, she decided to find
out if the Scots really did go commando under their kilts, ran over to
say "hello", shoved her head up his kilt and gave him a big sloppy
doggy kiss. He must have been commando, as he was dancing the Highland
fling pretty bloody quickly!

As soon as you said where you were I was laughing, I knew what was coming,
which I assume was more than the piper did. ;-)

Ahh, live thee-ay-ter!! Gotta love it. Here in NY, we have summer
Shakespeare in Central Park, and once a family of raccoons just
marched across the stage as if they were the Barrymores. :P Believe
me, they stopped the show.
