Default Baby Eyes' rabbit test

She had her first closeup meeting with bun-bun today, and I am not really
happy with the outcome. She didn't try to harm the rabbit, but she growled
repeatedly and hissed twice. None of the others have growled or hissed. She
didn't swat or try to chase. At one point she walked up and touched noses.
That was the high point of the meeting. I think she may be jealous.

During the same out-of-cage session, we let Coco into the room *without a
leash*. I watched her very carefully and stayed close, just in case. But she
was so sweet, in an exceptionally gentle way she tried to play with the
bunny, and bunny responded well.

BTW bunny is now faithfully using its litterbox, which is a huge relief!

Sounds promising! I had a friend whose rabbit was leash trained. I
never
knew (before I knew her Bugs Bunny) that rabbits could be so much like
well....*pets*. He was litter trained too.
Once Yoda brought a small rabbit into the house. (and it got loose, we
about
never caught the poor thing). No blood on it or obvious injury. I
always wondered
why he carried it so carefully.
I also wonder how much you could actually trust a cat around a rabbit.
Whether
someday instinct might kick in and they'd try to hurt it. I know
Bootsie would
try to kill a rabbit even if it was bigger than her. Once she took out
after a wild
turkey. I don't know *what* she was thinking or how she thought her 7-
pound self
could take it down.

Billy went after a wild turkey once, but he was quickly surrounded by a
whole mess of miffed hens. So far, he's been very good with the rabbit.

But I wonder - and fear - what you do. Otherwise I would probably let the
bunny out with the cats right now. Bunny is ready - tries to come out every
time I put food or water into the cage.

Tommy used to bring wild rabbits inside. In fact I once raised an orphan by
hand and later turned it loose in the wild.

I plan on training this bunny to a harness/leash later on. I'm sure it will
appreciate trips outside to eat fresh greens. Of course it's getting plenty
of fresh greens now, but it's different out of a jar, ya know

A few years ago, we found a full grown domestic rabbit (a black one) in
our yard. We installed it on our enclosed back porch, and almost
instantly has several curious kitties watching it trough the screen.

After several hours, I let some of the more curious cats on the back
porch with me and the rabbit. Rabbit did not seem to care. Cats
followed rabbit around. When the rabbit decided to follow a cat around,
however, THAT really freaked out the cats. It was hilarious! We found
the rabbit a home, and as far as I know, he/she still lives there today,
a cherished inside pet!
