Purrs needed here too!

This town's torando warning sirens started blaring around 8:45 AM but I was
already aware of the situation thanks to the NOAA Weather Radio that Dave
got me for Christmas. It had just reported that a funnel cloud was on the
ground 9 miles west of us and was headed this way @ 55mph so it was a bit of
a rush to get into the basement.

Dave went down first to keep the cats from jumping back up into the main
part of the house because I could catch them and hand them down there faster
than he could. But on the way down he fell onto his back and somehow cut his
hand badly.... There was blood all over the place by the time I got down
there. We only managed to get six of the nine kitties to safety, the other
hid out I know not where. The rain was coming down harder and faster than I
have ever seen in my life and there was no time to lose.

The tornado bypassed us but we both got hurt. Dave was limping around all
day and I've been in serious pain all week from - of all things - an
anesthetic injection I got at the dentist. My jaw hurts at the site of the
shot and I can't open my mouth wide enough to eat without a lot of pain. I
never had such a reaction to a dental injection before, and I'm wondering
what to do about it. The shot was given on Thursday 2/24 but the most pain
started about three days later and has been getting steadily worse.

I would recommend seeing the dentist about it fairly soon. Soreness
directly from the injection should have faded over time, not gotten
worse. You may have an infection in your mouth.

I am sorry to hear about Dave's hand, but am glad that the tornado missed
you.

I am glad that your house was spared. Tornados are really scary!

You should get back to the dentist; this is not at all normal.

You could have an abscess, or other infection going on.

I had a similar reaction to an injection a couple of years ago. It's the
only time I have had that reaction, and it was extremely painful. I had a
crown put in, and I suspect that having the mouth open for so long may have
exacerbated it, but I knew when the injection was made that something was
wrong because I have never had such pain from that procedure. You
definitely should check with the dentist, but in my case I could not even
open my mouth wide enough to eat a bananna! There's good news and bad news
if yours is the same as mine. The bad news is that the pain lasted for
several weeks, only gradually getting better. But the good news is that it
*did* eventually resolve itself, just as the dentist said it would (or
should).

I am so glad I started, rather scooter started getting the cats in the dog
cage when there is a storm. When I put the cage in the hallway, all three
go in and lay down. Sadie the dog has to get used to this but, I put her in
there yesterday and she styled for 30 minutes before wanting out. At least
if something goes wrong, I hope to be able to get them into a carrier fairly
quickly. But, you know the "best laid plans of mice and men...."

Please let me clarify something that I wrote. In my case, I knew that
something was wrong as the injection was being made. However, the dentist
always grasps the area and moves it back and forth. That is apparently
intended to distract the mind from the insertion of the needle. However,
that is not usually painful, and it was that time (and I have gone to the
same dentist for many years). So, I really think that either he was too
vigorous or that the injection itself caused the problem, possibly a
combination of the two. And, as I said earlier, my mouth had to remain open
for longer than usual while he worked on a crown, so that could have put
stress in that area. Otherwise, it was very much has you described. When I
saw the dentist, he suggested eating soft foods for awhile. Well, I can't
think of anything much softer than a banana, but even that was painful (and
it was impossible to open my mouth wide enough to eat the banana without
first cutting it into pieces). Fortunately, this did heal by itself in
time, just as he predicted.

This sounds like what is going on with me. This was an unusually painful
injection and I could tell something was wrong while it was being made. And
I also had to keep my mouth open for a very long time.

As of this morning, I probably couldn't eat a whole banana either.
