Default Polar Bear Cub, Mate, or Prey? A wow! video!

Polar bears are the largest living land carnivore, with males reaching a
weight of up to 650 kg (1,433 lbs.) and a length up to nearly 3 m (9.9 ft).
The major social interaction for polar bears is between females and their
cubs. After watching this funny Japanese video:

http://www.digitalfog.com/gallery/polar_bear.html

would you say this polar bear is:

1. Hunting the girl.
2. Interacting with the girl as a cub.
3. Trying to mate with her.

I'm certain that she does not want to find out.

I hate this expression but here goes

"I don't think that's funny at all"

At best it is stupid and mean, at worst it is tormenting a captive animal.

I'm swearing off anything anyone posts from digitalfog from here on out.
While I realize different people draw the line in different places when
teasing an animal crosses over from play to cruelty, I don't think their
stuff does anything to improve this group or its interaction.

I agree Jo, it's a very thin line between "teasing" and "tormenting". I'll
say again, I don't understand people to take pleasure in a sentient
creatures discomfiture, much less pain.

I think the degree of reaction to some of this has a relationship to our own
experience with teasing. As the youngest child in the family, I dislike
anything that resembles teasing more than my older brother would.

And a lot of play with cats and kittens does include a degree of teasing.
Getting them to chase things, wiggling fingers under paper or blankets,
tapping on the outside of a paper bag while they are exploring the inside,
etc.

And like people, different cats tolerate or even like this more or less than
others. A haircut one cats would show off would mortify another one. Some
really do enjoy dressing up, etc.

Treading on that line is never going to be a good thing in a group where we
all have slightly different ideas of where that line is will never be a good
thing.

Hmmmm. You may have something there. I am the youngest and have 2 older
brothers who teased me constantly!

And a lot of play with cats and kittens does include a degree of teasing.
Getting them to chase things, wiggling fingers under paper or blankets,
tapping on the outside of a paper bag while they are exploring the inside,
etc.

Well, I define "playing" as something *both* parties enjoy. Kittens and
cats enjoy chasing and pouncing - they "DON'T* enjoy having tape stuck to
their hair.

And like people, different cats tolerate or even like this more or less

than
others. A haircut one cats would show off would mortify another one.

Funny, but yeah, Bandit would take your arm off if you're anybody trying to
touch her except me (and sometimes when she's in a cross mood, even me).
But she does enjoy wearing a sweater (I think, like me, she's cold-natured
and likes the extra warmth) - she stands still for me to put it on and only
objects when I try to take it off.

Hugs,

CatNipped

Not to mention the poor kid! Did you notice she was crying in the final
shot?

Looks like you're the only one hip enough to realize this.
Good thing the ones who are calculating reactions based on sibling arrival
order in their family(???) have you to inform them that - ta da! - Tammy is
a troll of a different species! A mean-spirited species.
Duh.
