Remember how Tom got his start? The TV show 'Bosom Buddies', dressing in drag. Lots of people don't remember that. Jill It's on every Saturday morning, back-to-back episodes, on WTBS, I think from 6 am - 7 am. I watch it and giggle 'cause it never seemed as corny back then as it really is now. kili |

t... "Matthew aka NMR" wrote in message . .. But still there is recorded history and lineage even with problems History, yes to a degree. Lineage. Doubt it. People lie to protect themselves, their fortunes, their reputations and their families. (This habit also tends to distort recorded history as well.) Jo I know this comment will set off a fire-storm, but I've always wondered about the credulity of those who believed Mary when she said she was pregnant but never had sex. I bet there are a lot of pregnant teenagers now-a-days (or at least when I was growing up - teens now-a-days don't seem too concerned about being virgins) who wish they could get away with that claim! ; -- Hugs, CatNipped See all my masters at: http://www.PossiblePlaces.com/CatNipped/ "Jo Firey" wrote in message ... If you ignore the glitches that turn up in family trees. Lets just say I'm inclined to believe there are more than a few "inaccuracies" in all such records. Jo |

If you ignore the glitches that turn up in family trees. Lets just say I'm inclined to believe there are more than a few "inaccuracies" in all such records. Jo It's hard to say one way or the other. I've got my father's side of the family (my great uncle traced the lineage) back to 1679 Scotland. However, given the differences in spellings it's hard to say exactly. I've been in contact with a Bruce MacEwen and we seem to have mutual family ties way back when, but that's not the spelling of my name. At least if your family has lived in one country church birth/death/marriage records *might* be fairly consistent. But with immigration, surnames being changed or misspelled, I'd have to agree it's not easy to keep accurate records for such a long period of time. Jill To give just one example of how records may become distorted. I have my great grandfather's family bible. He was born in 1826 and lived to be almost ninety. Married three times. And the birth's of children recorded by those three wives in that bible give the spelling of their last name three different ways. Southerly, Southerlyn and Sutherlin. Jo |

I didn't watch it, but I loved the opening sequence where he and his buddy put money in a parking meter so they could use the space for tanning in chaise lounges, the part where they were in such deep discussion that they walked through water sprinklers and such. It was fresh comedy for its time. I am really glad that Tom Hanks is so successful. He's a hell of an actor and a comedian. Hugs and Purrs, Mark -- Proof of Sanity Forged Upon Request |

Movie to See
Except that "The Da Vinci Code" is a work of fiction. There really isn't
any "truth" to be brought out by this novel. You know what I find terribly amusing about "The DaVinci Code" movie? It *is* a work of fiction, and it's purpose is to entertain. I don't know how many people are going to see the movie hoping to learn the deep dark truths about the Bible, etc, but I'm sure it's going to be a very small number. But there are some folks so upset over the message of this work of fiction that they registered 53 domain names (truthaboutdavinci.com, .net. org, thetruthaboutdavinci.com, .net. org, etc) and are spending a boatload of money to set up web sites (actually one web site with a lot of aliases) to "correct the movie's misconceptions". Maybe it's just me, but I find it supremely silly to work up that much of a sweat over a movie. When I go see the movie I'll be going for the purpose of being entertained and distracted for a couple hours.I don't much care whether the premise of the movie is historically accurate or not. If I come away entertained, then the movie will have done it's job. |

Most of them have no notion of how many times it has been edited by well-meaning folks ever since it was first written down, some of it a century or more after the events it deals with. (I think some of them actually believe it was orginally written in English, judging by their failure to recognize that meanings can be inadvertently altered because words in one language can't always be literally translated into another.) -- NewsGuy.Com 30Gb $9.95 Carry Forward and On Demand Bandwidth |

Still, the idea that Jesus might have had a family, and descendants, had never occured to me before, and the book made the idea seem plausible. Really, it's not such an unrealistic idea at all. There's no way to prove it one way or the other, though. And the idea that the descendants of *anyone* who was born 2000 or so years ago were recorded and can be traced down to the present day is very unrealistic! I wasn't talking about tracing back a hereditary line to Jesus (and MM) from their contemporary descendants, or even trying to prove that the descendants exist. I was just saying that the very idea that such descendants *might* exist was intriguing to me. That idea had never occurred to me before, so it seemed interesting. If they did have children, it's quite possible their descendants are scattered all over the globe. But I agree that it's extremely likely that they would ever discover their ancestry, even if it is true. I also had never heard anything about the Templars or Priory of Scion or any of that other stuff. I always thought the Holy Grail was Arthurian fiction! I didn't realize there were real people searching for it. So these ideas were all new to me and therefore intriguing. Joyce |
