Default Happy Thanksgiving! (to Usians)

Today is Thanksgiving in the U.S.

I'm planning a small meal, roasted cornish game hen with cornbread
dressing and steamed zucchini. I wasn't planning on making mashed
potatoes because I hadn't bought any potatoes. My neighbor (owned by
Schwartzie and Fedders) said, "OMG, I have a huge bag of potatoes! I'll
give you some." So she gave me three good sized potatoes

I'm a little sad today because this is similar to the meal I'd planned
to make for my mom in November, 2008. I kept talking it up all through
the month, trying to raise her spirits (and get her out of bed). "Mom,
I'm going to cook a nice dinner for us! Cornish hen and dressng and all
that. We'll have a nice dinner." In 2008 November 22nd was on a
Tuesday, two days before Thanksgiving. She died that morning, five
years ago today

*But* I'm thankful I had her and she's always in my thoughts. Today's
meal will be in her honor. I'm going to put a tablecloth on the table
and use her china I hope she knows this, somehow.

OB Cats: Persia will get a tiny little bit of the meat from the cornish
hen as a treat.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Canadian Thanksgiving is in October.
Anyway, like you, I have sad memories on Thanksgiving.
Rusty (RB) had his last supper on Thanksgiving.
I gave him some turkey from my dinner.
Rusty never had people food and
it took him a while to realize what that was.
The day after Thanksgiving he went to the Bridge.
But I am thankful for the 15 years I had him.
He was good company.
My home just doesn't feel the same without his presence.
I still have his ashes in an urn sitting in one of his
favourite spots. -- Winnie

(((((((Jill)))))))

Holidays are always hard after the loss of a loved one, especially when the
loss was near a holiday. I suspect your mother does know you're thinking of
her and honoring her in this way.

Happy Thanksgiving. I'm sure that your Mom knows all about your meal and
is sharing it with you.

Tonight I'll raise a glass of wine in honour of your Mom and all those
loved ones missed at this time.

Judith

Thank you very much, Judith.

That was dinner. The photo was taken when the food was not yet plated.
(There wasn't a serving bowl for the zucchini; I suppose I could have
used a soup bowl... hmm.) I didn't want to let it get cold so no more
pictures, just eating! I lit the candle and said thanks to my mom for
being my best friend ever.

Persia was dancing around like she *knew* she was going to get something!

Jill, that looks like a simple, yet scrumptious meal! Had it been at my
house, that game hen would have never made it to the table, as Moe is
our "chicken-hawk" (remember Henry, from the Warner Bros cartoons?) of a
cat, always wanting any kind of meat we are eating, but especially loves
chicken, and was in kitty-heaven when we doled out the "giant chicken"
(turkey breast) leftovers we had

Thanks! It was actually a more complex meal than I normally cook just
for myself. What the heck, it was a holiday. Persia got a little treat
