... "Victor Martinez" wrote in message news YUM! Indeed it does sound good, Victor. Today Nathan & I went out on a bike ride, we did 100km. We stopped for lunch at one of our favourite spots and I had a lovely freshly baked wholemeal baguette, still warm, filled with juicy prawns and sliced avocado, all with a fresh side salad of mixed green leaves, red cabbage, cherry tomatoes and cucumber. It was delicious. Cheers, helen s Ohmygawd, that sounds delicious!!! Where did you buy it (or did you make it yourself)? Hugs, CatNipped |

Hugs, CatNipped In a village not far from Chateau Simmons, Castle Acre, is a Ye Olde Tea Shoppe, known as Willow Cottage Tea Rooms IIRC. Anyhow, we tend to support that establishment with our patronage as when Vernon was the victim of a hit-and-run, the staff there was great. Lots of pots of tea - use of phone for police, first aid kit, etc., etc. Plus, they like cyclists :-) All of the food is homemade, the soups are to die for and the homemade cakes *delicious*. Nathan always has a piece of their homemade carrot cake... The food they do is good, basic, well-made stuff, not overly pretentious - just tasty and *lovely* Cheers, helen s |

The Food Channel is big on that Italian flat-leaf parsley on cooking shows....my son (who loves fresh menudo) says the canned is no good; don't ask me. If I won't eat shrimp brains nor buffalo do you think I'd snarf down cow's stomachs? To each his/her own. I had to try the canned before I could be bothered with preparing menudo from scratch. Sadly, none of the Mexican restaurants around here serve menudo so canned was my option to get an idea of what the fuss is about; at least it came from a market which caters to a Mexican clientele Much ado about nothing, as it turns out. I'll make something similar using browned pieces of pork or maybe slices of chorizo, hominy, beef stock, herbs and spices and call it soup I don't mind tripe but it's not something I look to love. It looks somewhat like parsley, but has a distinctive flavor that really grows on you. Try it! (thanks Victor for not telling us to leave snapper's head on). Genetic to some people, cilantro/coriander leaves taste like soap. I'm one of those, so I substitute Italian flat-leaf parsley if a recipe calls for cilantro. It's usually not absolutely essential. I recently had canned (Victor will kill me!) menudo (tripe and hominy stew) without it. I added extra Mexican oregano, though, and a couple of dashes of ground chipolte chili powder I like hot and spicy! Jill "jmcquown" wrote in message ... I added I've never had the canned stuff, so I dont' know. But menudo *never* has cilantro added. extra Mexican oregano, though, and a couple of dashes of ground chipolte chili powder I like hot and spicy! Oregano, chopped onion, lime juice and dry chiles are the only condiments used for menudo. -- Victor M. Martinez Owned and operated by the Fantastic Seven (TM) Send your spam he Email me he |

The soup I'm going to make won't have tripe and I'm actually thinking of using garbanzo beans instead of hominy, so it's just going to be Jill's Spicy Soup. Happy? Got a good recipe for Pozole? And while you're at it, can you settle a small dispute? Some folks are telling me Pozole is a "side dish", not a soup/stew made with hominy. I say it's a spicy stew with hominy. What say you? Jill |
