Good luck with the whole thing. Our cats will not use any litter box with
any kind of cover or hood (who knows what goes on in the minds of cats?) so
we just humor them; it's not a whole lot of trouble to sweep up and
redeposit clumping-type sand litter back into box. OTOH, some hoomins are
neatness freaks, wanting their furry dictators to be as nitpicking neat as
they are (one probably invented this thing). It ain't gonna happen, folks.
Cats are clean, self-cleaning entities, but they could care less what we
have to do to keep their surroundings liveable.

Minor "overflows" of litter on the floor don't bother me, but every once
in a while Melisande postions herself so everything but the essential
portion is in the litterbox, and makes her "deposit" on the floor
instead! (Then throws large amounts of sand out of the box in a vain
attempt to cover it.)

I have my own method for handling the minor tracking. I just keep an
old bath towel under the box. Then I just flick the towel back and
don't have to sweep as often (guess which of the Odd Couple I would
have been).

Anyway, I can tell when someone misses the box, as the towel has been
used to cover it up. Little Bit has also been known to pull the towel
into the box if I've been remiss on scoop duty.
