It is sort of like some of my pagan friends who lump all Christians
as raving fundamentalists who'd like to burn pagans at the stake.
They're wrong, and probably don't mean all Christians, but it sure
comes across that way.

And that doesn't even begin to compare with the way that many Christians
talk about pagans! Some people (not just Christians, but in the USA, most
of them are) can't tell the difference between a wiccan and a satanist.

Politics and religion are two areas where people have very strong feelings
and opinions. Because of that, some groups of people vow never to talk
about those subjects, to keep things civil. On the other hand, I think
those discussions can be interesting - to a point. I don't have any problem
with controversy, so I wouldn't advocate banning those subjects outright.
Nobody wants a flame war, but on this ng, if a discussion starts to turn
ugly, we can always start posting recipes.

Hey, the Grand Canyon is one thing, but a "TOAD SQUAT FESTIVAL"? Come
on.

Theresa

Hey, I'm not telling the Toad Squat Queen you said that. The TS Festival is
probably the social event of the year for that town. :-)

To reiterate: I don't want you out of the newsgroup. I have nothing
against you. I don't think you're a racist, and I never said you were.
Peace??

When you blanket-label a group to which I belong with such a nasty
insult, you label me with same. [By labeling a group with one word,
you state that *each* member of that group can be described that way.]

But we are *all* members of so many groups. I'm a Republican, a Baptist, an
animal advocate, a wife, a former den mother, former girl scout leader, dang
close to being a Senior Citizen, a mother, an American, a Southerner, and a
short female. One of those groups is bound to get slammed at one time or
another. Do try to look past the words on usenet, especially if you aren't
specifically named in the alleged nasty insult, and see what's in the poster's
heart. It's not hard on this group to do that. Just try. I just can't see Joyce
or anyone else being deliberately hurtful or malicious.

You mean I'm not the only one who deletes a lot of posts before I can
send them and still sticks her paw in her mouth on occasion? WOW!! I
don't feel so alone any more.

Are you kidding? Sometimes I compose the post, then e-mail it to myself with
the intention of reading/sending it later. Most of those I don't send. I've
suffered Poster's Remorse way too many times. Especially if I write something
very late at night.

Exactly. You can see an old Grand Canyon any day. How often can you
see a TSF?

Single-mindedness is all very well in cows or baboons; in an animal
claiming to belong to the same species as Shakespeare it is simply disgraceful.
