As the connection with my potential new DH strengthens in anticipation of
our upcoming meeting, I am searching for the funds to cover my trip. Now it
could be that he will offer to reimburse some of the gas $ after I get there
but who knows, and I am not counting on it. What I am doing is saving every
possible nickel and dime for the rest of this month and trying to minimize
my spending to what is essential. Also, I am selling my collection of movies
on video.

Some of you might recall that I mentioned the movies a few months back, and
since then I have sold quite a few of them, but I still have well over 300,
the vast majority of which are in excellent, nearly-as-good-as-new
condition.

I posted the title list at http://friesianlover.com/vhs.html in case anyone
wants to see it. I'm offering them for less to you folks than I have them
listed for on Amazon.com because I won't have to give up 15% to Amazon and
their shipping charges are outrageous.

There's a direct link to email me on the bottom of the above page if
anyone's interested in a price quote for some of the tapes. Shipping within
the USA will be very reasonable due to the availability of Media Mail.

Thanks in advance!

I'm a relative newcomer. Your post is intriguing. Is this a guy you met
in the Net & haven't met IRL yet? How far away does he live? Can you
ask him right out, in advance, if he'll split the cost w/you?
I'm off to check your list.

We met online, yes, a little over 4 years ago but communication was spotty
at best until quite recently. This will be our first f2f encounter, and I'm
the one who has decided to do it now, so IMO it would be uncouth to ask him
for money. I'll make it down there OK but you know how it is when you're on
the road, it always seems to end up costing more than you think it will and
I don't want to risk coming up short when it's time to come home or have to
be on a shoestring budget the whole time I'm gone.

One nice thing about paying your own way is that he can't claim that you "owe
him" anything. Not that I'd expect you to want to hook up with a guy like
that, but you never know.

That being said, when my husband and I decided to meet face to face, I made
the trip and he used his miles to pay for the flight. He thought I would
prefer to have him visit, for safety, but a) I (perhaps foolishly) felt I
could trust him, b) I'd met online folks before and c) I was living with my
brother at the time, and I thought it would be easier to get to know Eric
without other people around.

Of course, I had a few people set up as contacts. They expected me to "check
in" by phone by a certain time. My brother also insisted on having his name,
address, and a few other pertinent bits of information before the trip.

My mom and I remember the situation differently. I very clearly remember
telling her that I would be flying to visit Eric, then calling her while he
drove us to his apartment. My mom very clearly remembers getting a phone call
from me, surprising her with the news that I was in Colorado meeting Eric. I
wonder which one of us is actually right?

That makes sense.

Sounds very sensible. And obviously it turned out well.

Isn't that funny the way that can happen? I have memories that I'm not
at all sure are real.

Good luck with selling your tapes. I sold all mine a couple of years ago
for a fraction of the price I'd paid for them, I hope you get a good
price for yours.

Pat, on this note, please... although I'd love to meet you don't even
consider paying for us to go to lunch. I'm in dire straights and you need
to save your funds for the trip. Lunch seems like a luxury which wouldn't
be a good idea for either of us at this time. Just know I appreciate the
thought!

Enjoy the trip and make sure you have enough so that you don't get stuck
someplace.

Hugs,
Jill
