Oops!! I'm sorry, Joyce. Perhaps "consequence" was a poor choice
of words - "result" or "effect" may be better. I did not imply (or
mean to) that you or anyone else was responsible for John B's
departure. Of COURSE it was his choice and no one asked or told him
to exit, I know that. (Sadly, it was also Cheryl's choice to leave,
though I truly hope she'll change her mind.) My point, poorly
written, was that sometimes a statement innocently made can strike a
nerve not at all intended. The result can be a loss. But I'd better
shut up before I make things worse - mainly want to apologize for what
might appear to be even the merest hint that *you* were somehow at
fault. No way!!!

Thanks, Jeanne! I know my comments at that time caused a big flap,
including John leaving the list, but I couldn't have known that was
going to happen just because I expressed an opinion. (Which I later
clarified and even modified considerably, btw.) (For those who don't
know what this is about, Google on the word "military" in this ng.)

Anyway, we're all getting a bit paranoid and sensitive, including me.

You're right that most of the time when people get offended, especially
around here, it wasn't intentional. I think most people here are well
intentioned.
