HRFLTiger wrote: Heads up folks - Problems with Supermarket Petfoods. It's not just supermarket foods... A number of foods are being recalled because animals are getting sick and dying; kidney failure is the most prevalent problem and they are not sure what is causing it yet. Here is the complete list of cat foods: http://www.menufoods.com/recall/product_cat.html Dog foods: http://www.menufoods.com/recall/product_dog.html PLEASE check the lists for any foods you may have and follow the guidelines on the website: http://www.menufoods.com/recall/Pres...l_03162007.pdf Phone Number 1-866-895-2708 -L. |

What are all these names? "America's Choice, Preferred Pets"? "Authority"? "Best Choice"? Are these cat food brands, or pet food *stores*? If they're food brands, I've never heard of any of them. What about Friskies,, Whiskas, 9Lives, etc? Why are they not on this list? Is that because those brands are not affected? Or because this is a different kind of list? Can someone help? I still don't know whether to feed my cats their canned Friskies or not, so for now, they're just getting dry food. Joyce |

Are these cat food brands, or pet food *stores*? Those are brands. A lot of products, from cat food to ketchup to automobiles (and many many other things) are made on the same assembly line, differing only in the brand label stuck on them. For example, the old Geo/Chevy Prizm and the old Toyota Corolla used to come off the same assembly line (they still may, my info is several years old) - same car, different manufacturers. The only differences were brand emblems and trim parts (my brother used to work in the auto industry). make that "same car, different brand" In this case, the same assembly line makes lots of different brands of cat food. It's the same food, the only difference is the label. When make that "it's apparently the same food" Geez, if Natasha (RB) was still with me I'd be very very glad right now that I didn't feed her wet food, else I'd be going crazy with worry myself. [snipped] Thanks for the explanation - makes a lot of sense. I did understand that it was a manufacturer that sells their stuff to different brands. But the list on menufoods.com seems to be of both stores and brands. There's a website, www.menufoods.com and a customer information number 1-866-895-2708. Their information isn't very helpful. That's what I was posting about, actually! I'll just keep my kitties off canned food until it's all figured out. Joyce |

The CNN article said: Proctor & Gamble as announed a recall of certain 3, 5.5, 6, and 13.2 ounce canned and 3 and 5.3 ounce foil pouch cat and dog wet food products sold under the Iams and Eukanuba brands. The recalled products have the code dates of 6339 through 7073 followed by the plant code 4197. Jeanne Hedge ============ http://www.jhedge.com |
