I'm sure there are those of you who remember my father and the sagas of
him and his cat Charlie. Well, they are all over as of about two hours
ago. My father succumbed to a septic infection. I spent the evening
with him as they got him transferred from the ER to ICU. He died
several hours later. He just stopped breathing. I will miss him, but I
am glad for him. He was tired of living. It had become a chore for him
and one that was painful. And he doesn't have to go through that pain
anymore. It is all over for him. I've been crying for 2 hours - just
because, I guess. But I really do feel this strong sense of relief for
him and for me. It was hard to watch him when I knew he wasn't happy.

Thanks for reading through all of this. Comments are welcome.

Bridget - who just breaks out in tears suddenly every once in a while.

I'm so so sorry to hear about your father passing away. I remember your
posts about him well. Please take care of yourself and give yourself as
much time to grieve as you need. My father died almost 7 years ago and
it took a while for me to grieve his passing. If there is anything I can
do, my email is valid.
We are thinking of you, hoping you can get some sleep and rest and we
are sending lots of cyber hugs, since we cannot be there to hug you.
Soncek sends lots of purrs to help you through this difficult time and
I'm sure your kitties will be there for you too,

Words can't express. I could come out and tell you I know how you feel, and that
wouldn't be quite right; we all experience these things deep in the gut, where
it's no one but you and your soul, working it all out.

I am glad for your father not that he passed, but that he did not go alone; that
he had you there and the knowledge that you and his dear little Charlie were
there for him to help take away the pain and suffering. That he went from a
place of death and dying to an eternal home across the bridge where his spirit
will be restored to the life and strength he must have had once; and that when
he went, he knew that you were there, that you had such a mighty strength that
you could stand by a man in his last hours; and that his buddy will be provided
for by one who cares.

I can do little but cry with you as I read this (remembering my own mother right
now, whose birthday would have been this past weekend) and give you my empathy
and a prayer for you to remember your dad with fondness, and that you'll be at
peace and healing gently from this shock. And never forget you have friends
among us, and to come forth and talk of these things is never, ever "off topic."

Blessed be,
Baha
