Deciding to Euthenise my cat
it is an extremely difficult decision. My thoughts are with you, and if
it is that time, may it be as easy as possible on the both of you. "Jules" wrote in message ... My cat is very sick. Blood tests last week showed infection, low immunity, and FIV+ status. He's lost lots of weight. He's at the vet right now on an I.V. drip. Tomorrow we get the results of further blood tests and x-rays. If they don't turn out well then it's time to think about pulling the plug. ****. I don't want to do that, but I don't want him to suffer either. |

It's a highly personal one, between your own thoughts about it, the vet's input, etc., etc. I don't envy you this decision. BTDT. Otoh, perhaps it'll turn out that your cat's condition will be treatable & that he'll recover - the best possible outcome. If not, then whenever it happens, I hope it'll go as well as can be expected for both you & your cat. Cathy |

I'm sorry about your cat. Most of us here have had to face that decision. I most recently faced it in March with my 18 year old cat. It was very, very hard to decide when to do it but I didn't want him to suffer and he wasn't getting any better. He, too, lost a lot of weight and lost interest in eating and was withdrawn. You have to take comfort in knowing you are helping your cat and showing him your love. He will feel that. It's a very peaceful passing. Stay with him and let him know you love him. It's very quick and not at all scary to witness. When you look in your cats eyes and you see that he's in pain and unhappy, you will know that it's time and you'll want to do what's best for him. It's the last loving thing we can do for them. I wish one day euthanasia will be legal for we humans as well. He is a very lucky cat to have someone who loves him as much as you do. |

I will be dealing with this with my cancer striken cat Willi in the coming
months - I am hoping longer. Remember that euthenasia means "good death" in Greek. Note the variety of resources on the internet on the subject and a number of great books on amazon.com. It's been a great comfort for me doing my own research and reading. The more you understand the process - the more piece of mind you will have IMO. Magnus |
